Hi,

I want to know your opinions on Panasonic "U" series plasma. I would like to consider this series while making my purchase soon. Pls. give your inputs for 50 inch & compare with LG PK550,

Thanks in advance.

ITsays it is a full HD plasma on the site with progressive scan . You can also compare it with LG PK and Samsung 50C550 series and take a call. All fall in same price band.

@sanjay0864 - The U Series from Pana is Full HD ie 1080p, I can bet on that cause I own one.
I would take you up on the bet if I was the betting type. :) You may believe what you want, but the fact is that last years TH-P50S10S and this years TH-P50U20, even though advertised as FULL HD 1920x1080, do not actually have full 1080 lines with moving pictures. The 'Moving Picture Resolution' of the TH-P50U20 is '900 lines'. The Panasonic 'G', 'V' & 'VT' series are the ones that have 'Moving Picture Resolution' of full 1080 lines.

PS: A lot of low to mid priced LCD TVs advertised as FULL HD, have similiarly less 'moving picture resolution'. It's important to read the specifications more carefully, for Panasonic is one of the few companies that actually states this under the TVs detailed specifications.

@SANJAY0864 .

BTW Can you tell me the number of moving picture resolution of samaung
50C550 plasma. It is not mentioned in their web site.

thanks,

Motion resolution of nearly all 1080p TVs except the ultra-expensive flagship models is less than 1080p.

But...

Motion resolution is not considered an objective performance parameter as there is no way yet to accurately measure it. CNET published this article on motion resolution in 2008 - Counting blurry lines: Should CNET test for motion resolution on HDTVs? | Crave - CNET

CNET publishes motion resolution test results for all TVs it reviews but moving picture resolution is not listed as a performance parameter in the final results. So, it's personal preference whether to believe in moving picture resolution numbers or not.

For some reason it's hard to find reviews for Samsung C550 in popular sites. But I found a review for the slightly more expensive model Samsung C590 in CNET. It says motion resolution for Samsung C590 is 800-900.

Thanks for the information. I consider this as a valuable information & will look into the specification more closely before taking a decision. Thanks again

 This is not true...
If fact you are talking about the apparent limitaions of the display technology to show no. of moving lines.
tv's are not classified based on moving picture resolution. its based on native resolution ie actual no. of pixels on the panel.
almost all lcd tv's have moving picture resolution of 300 lines w/o any ifc trickery.. that means does not even qualify it to dvd SD standard..

And what part of my post is "not true"?

At the end of it I as a buyer feel cheated cause I put in my hard earned money for a Full HD TV and then I realize that its not showing me 1080lines in motion. Am gonna fight this out so other buyers are not cheated by this gimmick.
To me Full HD is 1080 in still and motion.

sanjay..
my whole piont is, saying full hd is for still pictures and not for motion resolution will create hell a lot of confusion.
every FHD tv is designed with the good intention of showing 1080P lines of motion resolution.
its either due to limitations of display technology or our own ocular limitations...we dont see it.
btw, pana G, V has only 900 lines of motion resolution. its by using IFC its boosted to 1080..(hdtvtest review)
thanks.
