I recently I noticed that there are red and green patches on the top corners of my TV screen. CRT. This has started happening after I installed my hifi speakers and AVR into the set-up. Now its now a new thing, that magnet from the hifi should be responsible for this. But the speakers are shielded, as per the manufacturer specification. I'm not sure if the AVR has anything to do with it.

The patches are stronger when the TV is switched on and decreases very slowly over time. Currently the speakers are 2.5ft away from the TV.

What can be the reasons?

Its probably the same thing you suspect - magnetization of the screen. You have to move the speakers further (2.5ft is too close even when they are magnetically shielded). AVRs or any other electronic equipment with a lot of inductance can produce EMF and hence you are advised to move the AVR away from the TV if it causes such issues.

Hopefully its a temporary phenomenon which will dissipate once you move the equipment (best to know what is the culprit - move away the speaker closest to the patch and see if the patches disappear). You can always diagnose what is causing the issue and move that device away from the TV.

If the screen problem do not resolve by itself, try doing several switching on and off cycle or see if the TV has a "degauss" feature hidden inside the menu.

Switch off the TV from the mains (not the remote) and switch it on. This had got rid of the problem for me.
