Hi friends,
I am planning to buy a 4K UHD smart TV for my living room. After doing a small research over the net I came across
LG 49SM8100PTA. Any opinion or suggestions in regards please.
Vivek

I got a quote for 49sm8100 of RS.62000 + cashback. But I bought Panasonic gx750 as I found it better than sm8100.
Though if u have time u can wait for OnePlus which is going to be launched in India first before anywhere else on around 26th Sept.
Apart from these u can try to find sk8500 from last year, might get a good deal on that..

I have changed my plans for the LG 49SM8100PTI.
Now I am planning for the 2018 model LG 49SK8500PTI. But unfortunately it is not available anywhere offline over here in Kolkata.

Check for samsung ultra hd models , they look great aw well.
Sony will be more expensive.
if you are looking for low budget , you may try TCL brand.

My main reason for choosing LG 49SK8500PTA is for its "full array led backlit". Dolby Atmos with subwoofer and many other hi end features mostly present only in the expensive O led models.

Is there much of a difference between the 49” and 55” models. If you can go for 55 it would be better since you are going 4K it would be a reasonable size. Just my 2 cents.

Personally i am not impressed with LG 4K Tvs. You may play same ultra hd content on both Samsung , LG and other models and decide.

May I also request some help in locating some good options, for a UHD 75" inch TV. I would prefer to avoid the OLED models, (having lived with Plasma). I need to keep the budget around 2L.
So far, I have been offered the Samsung NU7100, for 1.80, which I am told, is the same specs. as the 2019 model but without the Blu-tooth and smart remote, costing almost 35k more.

The full array dimming is the most advance backlit technology in a non o'led TV. Presently this technology is only incorporated in 55" and above. LG had this in 49" in their 49SK8500PTA in their 2018 model. But in 2019 they have this in their 9000 series only which starts from 55" and above. You can find great reviews and advantages of using full array dimming backlit technology over the internet.

75NU7100 Is the cheapest 75” tv from among LG/Samsung/Sony. 75NU8000 is better and should be available around 2L. You can also look at LG 75SK8000 if you want wide viewing angles at the loss of deeper blacks but direct lit( which would be better for this size) as compared to samsung’s edge lit.
Also LG supports Dolby Vision/Atmos for which decent amount of content is available on Netflix as well as itunes if you have an apple tv.

Don’t get fooled when a tv says it is FALD. You also need to look at the number of dimming zones. If you want to go as close to the OLED’s then the only contenders are Sony X950G,Samsung Q80R/Q90R IMO.
LG’s FALD TV’s are mediocre when it comes to Local dimming.

What is your opinion on the Samsung Frsme TV UA55LS003ARXTW ???

It doesn't have FALD. So it's similar to Q60R in performance. Also, know that FALD tends to act up in tough scenes or with subtitles, changing brightness when they come and go, along with blooming. LG ones are worse because of IPS panels. Bloom a lot. I would say just get an LG B( at diwali sales. Save up for it.

It looks decent on paper, performance seems close to 2018 Q7FN/2019 Q60 QLED. Its edge lit though.
PQ should be better than LG equivalents except for viewing angles. If you don’t have a wide seating then you shouldn’t be worried.
But if you are getting it for close to 1L you should get the B8 instead , would be 20-30k more but the PQ is way better. (Considering ofcourse if OLED suits your usage scenario.)

Before I got the OLED I used the 2018 LG 65UK6300 (Direct Lit/Non FALD) for around 8 months and didn’t see any signs of blooming, I moved it to the other room and it is still being used and no blooming.
The QLED’s are still much superior though.(Not to OLEDs)

How will it have blooming if there's no FALD? Blooming happens because of FALD. IPS panels will bloom more than VA because of there low native contrast. B8 can be had for 1.10 from stores if they have stock. Otherwise B9 would be around that price only soon.

My bad, I thought you were referring to blooming on std. IPS panels. Thats why I said non FALD. Blooming basically happens because of local dimming, not necessarily on FALD tvs but its a notion that only FALD tvs have it.
B8 is a great option for 1.10.

I'm guessing you might be mixing dirty screen effect and blooming. Blooming is when there's a small bright portion on the screen, and the entire zone lights up, causing a halo like effect around the object, as the other zones are dimmed but this one is bright. Lower the contrast ratio, more apparent this effect becomes. Bias lighting can help somewhat with this.
