Planning a 4K UHD Smart TV for my living room.

I'm guessing you might be mixing dirty screen effect and blooming. Blooming is when there's a small bright portion on the screen, and the entire zone lights up, causing a halo like effect around the object, as the other zones are dimmed but this one is bright. Lower the contrast ratio, more apparent this effect becomes. Bias lighting can help somewhat with this.
I am well aware of both; blooming and dse are entirely different. You yourself said “as other zones are dimmed”, thats what I said local dimming causes blooming. There are plenty of complaints for edge lit tvs with local dimming having blooming problem on google.eg sony x9300e which is edge lit and has local dimming. The intensity of blooming varies by panel type and backlighting.

I know edge-lit models with local dimming can have blooming. I should have written local dimming instead of FALD. However, no edge-lit models with local dimming were in discussion; that's why I just wrote FALD. You mentioned no blooming a model that's direct lit without FALD. Of course there won't be blooming on that as the entire screen is always on.

"My bad, I thought you were referring to blooming on std. IPS panels. Thats why I said non FALD. "

Edge-lit isn't standard, is it? This is what confused me as to what you're talking about, because there's no standard way of lighting any screen as far as I'm concerned. Both dled and eled exist in the same price bracket.

Oh, I think this might be the mix up. The Frame doesn't have local dimming as far as I remember. That's why I said it'll be similar to Q60. No local dimming. I was only comparing and highlighting the FALD models

Guys kindly advise me on Samsung 55 inch Frame
QA55LS03RAKXXL ....
I am very much impressed on the overall features and price tag.
Kindly help me on deciding on this please.....

All cool, we both misunderstood. :)

Not worth it at all. Get the B8 if it's in stock. Tatacliq has it for 1.20 currently. Otherwise wait and get B9 during diwali sales.

Help me decide between LG 55SK8500PTA, LG 55SM9000PTA & SAMSUNG QA55LS03RAKXXL..... please
SM9000PTA pros
1. It is direct lit FALD.
2. Dolby Vision and Atmos
3. eARC support i.e Lossless Atmos and DTS MA output to your home theatre (in case needed)
4. You can play 4k remuxes/rips/H.265 , supports upto 10tb hdd.( If you have another player or don’t need it then you can ignore this point)
5. Wide Viewing Angles
6.Lower Input Lag
Cons
Low contrast ratio (can be managed if watching in a normally lit room)
Performance suffers in dark room.

Samsung the Frame
Pros
Deeper Blacks
One Connect Box
FreeSync
Cons
Edge Lit
+ All the pros mentioned for LG

You can see which features are important to you. Although it seems like I am favouring LG but frame is good as well if you don’t need the features mentioned. Buy the LG if the price difference seems justified.

Are you sure The Fame has edge lit dimming ?

Are you sure The Fame has edge lit dimming ?

It's edge lit most probably. Previous one was. It doesn't have any local dimming. That's why the price is outrageous. Also, when I enquired about Q70 from local dealers, they were giving 30% off. I was quoted 1.31 for Q70, and this is like more than a month ago. You can bargain more and get Q70 close to 1-1.10 during diwali sale for sure. I wouldn't take it at that cost over an LG B8, but if you wanna watch a lot of news and satellite TV content, take that over The Frame.

Rtings will test the new Frame TV soon. Wait for their review before buying. That will clear all the marketing jargon and reveal the truth.

The previous one was not Q Led. But this is Frame 3 with Quantum dot Q Led with Supreme UHD dimming as specified by Samsung.

Marketing jargon, buddy. Micro dimming is also present in Chinese brands. That's not local dimmming. It's basically changing the gamma of the picture, which you should turn off in order to get accurate picture as intended by the creators. Qled is nothing but more color volume. The previous one had color gamut way lower than QLEDs and OLEDs, both of which have similar color gamut, but the present OLEDs with WOLED LG panels, suffer from less color saturation, but only at higher nits. They will present SDR with just as much color volume as QLEDs.

I have written its edge lit. No mention of dimming.
The details you are reading are of the 2019 Frame TV which is QLED with micro dimming which is different than local dimming. The model no. you have mentioned is different. The 2019 frame tv is QA55LS03RAKXXL. I know where you are looking for this. I’ll login myself in the morning and see the details there and confirm.

Ignore my immediate previous post.(You had mentioned a different model on the previous page)

The model available on the employee site you were looking is the 2019 Samsung Frame QA55LS03RAKXXL (as you said) , its a QLED TV and is “edge lit” for sure, with micro dimming. As Marakk said about micro dimming, its nothing of importance.
Performance should be like the Q60R as far the specs go on paper.
Hope you have all your doubts cleared and you can make the purchase.
