42" Plasma TV :Panasonic or Samsung??

In my hunt for a new and first flat panel,i have narrowed down to the Panasonic 42A20D and Samsung PS42C450.They are priced at 36k and 42k respectively here in Chennai and i have had a demo on both and they are equally good. One big advantage with the Panasonic's is the slightly brighter display and 3yr warranty on the panel compared to 1yr on the Samsung. But Samsung looks better, has USB input and extra component-in(2)Moreover i cant figure out the DCR(all it says is mega DCR) on the sammy and response time on the Panny. Is there any major difference feature wise between them both?

I need to take a call by this friday for sure.:sos:

Thanks

Get the Panasonic 42X20D instead of the Panasonic 42A20D. Both are identical except for slightly better audio in the 42A20D. You should be able to get the 42X20D for approx. 32.5k and at that price it is the best value for money in that size/price category.

If planning have planned to buy PLASAMA don't even think beyond Panasonic ,They are number 1 brand in terms of plasma , I guess even samsung is using panasonic build flat panel inside there Plasma TV.
I just bought PANASONIC S10D , it's an FULL HD version ,You can also go for HD capable set if wants to save on cost.

Sanjay,Ben-Thanks for your inputs. One thing thats really a factor thats bothering me is the USB port in Samsung. Its way to common nowadays to watch movie rips through USB either in a computer or TV as we do not have much access to Blurays in India still.I will loose this option with the panny.

How is Samsung's reputation with their plasma TV's?I hope they dont trouble you after the warranty period of 1 yr.

I use a Samsung plasma and I am happy with it, but I'd recommend Pana for the following reasons:

(a) they have the least amount of temporary image retention
(b) they have a 3 year warranty
(c) they're the only company for whom plasma is still a priority

my vote for samsung. but pana if better VFM.
i would choose samsung because...
42C450 sold elsewere is same as sold in india...:)
but pana X20 in india differs from the one sold in uk etc.
you dont get 100 Hz processing like uk version..
the accurate "True cinema" mode is omitted.. (what these pana people think???)
moreover i dont like pana.. because they dont sell the good VFM plasmas like 42U20, 42S20 in india.
me too want to buy a 42" plasma..waiting for 2011 to see if better VFM models are available.:licklips:

Take a look at the LG plasmas too...especially if how the TV looks is an imp criteria then the PJ series wont disappoint and is good VFM . But yeah the media players wont play mkvs

Don't consider USB input or file compatibility as a deciding factor, choose a tv which you feel displays picture perfectly to your preference.

Ok-the deal is done..will be getting the Panny-42A20 delivered on Sunday .I had to make a choice by this evening and this is it!The 42X20 is not in stock and if booked will take atleast 10 more days to deliver. Not willing to wait that long and the 3 year warranty is too good to miss(vs the Samsung's 1yr).I had locked the Diwali special offer price of 36.5K by making a down payment of Rs5000/- at NEXT outlet,Chennai on Sunday last.will pay the balance while picking up the unit.
:licklips:
I need to get a decent HDMI cable now!any suggestions?

Congrtaulations for your new toy...

HDMI cables are available from 350/- up until I dont know (a few thousand)..."Bandridge" are reliable and readily availabe approx price 1450-1500/-...as per an article I read on cnet even a 350/- HDMI will perform equally well...so purchase only after you've done your own little search.

No research required. Cable distortion is absolutely nil as the transmission is digital.

Get the one below.
eBay India: 100% Genuine CablesEtc Gold Plated HDMI Cable HH001-18 (item 360318015132 end time 16-Nov-2010 20:29:04 IST)

I got it and Iam happy.

My settings are as follows
View mode-Normal
Color-51(default)
Contrast-51
Sharpness-54
Eco mode-ON
3D-Mid

I have hooked up the Component but cant seem to get the audio output...please HELP!!.Also i dont see the 3 yr warranty part mentioned in the warrany card.Do i have to follow it up or something?

If your model is eligible for a extended warranty then ....

The dealer should give you the extended warranty card, it doesn't come with the TV by default in the box. You gotta fill that up and send it to Panasonic office within 7 says.

Ask for the extended warranty card .... ASAP :)

Re: Plasma TV :Panasonic or Samsung!!Panasonic 42A20D it is!!

Congratulations for the new Plasma Display...

Component cables (red, green, blue) only transport video...you'll need 02 more cables for audio (red/white)...so in all you need 05 cables instead of 03 between the source and display...

hope it helps..

also, you can purcahse HDMI cables for as cheap as 350/- from ebay or local sellers...forum members have been using them are quite happy about it...but if you are brand concious and fancy more expensive cables then you can also look for "Bandridge" HDMI cables for approx 1450.00 - 1500.00/-
