Hi guys, I want to know which BDs are really really good... I am considering purchasing some discs... Please name your TOP 5 blu ray discs that you own

[**OMIT BatmanBegins,DarkKnight and Planet Earth from your list, I already have them ** :)

Ask yourself - which movies you would demo to your friends - in that order] :)

I only have 5 BRs with me yet :( , but I am sure even if I have 100 (which would be soon) No BR can compete AVATAR, its a true master piece of a BR. Real A/V challange for your HT setup. .....
My review HERE

Based on no. of times I repeated from my collection.
Avatar
Black Hawk Dawn
U-571
Quantum Of Solace
The Matrix
Omitted Dark Knight otherwise it will always be in top 5 list no matter how I arrange the list.

guys is sony the only company offering bluray discs in india? and where can i find the list of their discs offered here in india (or whatever else is available)?

yesterday i bought a sony 370 bluray player where the shop claimed it was region free. i have my doubts. i called sony world and the guy there also claimed it to be region free. any idea where i can get a usa or europe bluray disc to check this out?

appreciate the feedback.

You have not owned 100, without watching every BR released, you cannot tell avatar is damn good:lol:

Hero
Death Race
G.I.Joe
Matrix- Trilogy
I Am Legend

cheers.

You wanted my Top 5 and I'm not gonna omit TDK from that list, so here it goes,

1. The Dark Knight
2. Band of Brothers
3. The Matrix
4. The Rock
5. Top Gun

Actually I liked most of the BD's that I've in my collection. Only movie I was not very impressed on Blu-ray was Fifth Element. The special effects/alien getup's looked bad.

For the purpose of demoing out of my BD collection ,i wud pick--

Casino royale (collectors edition) this BD has a marvellous PQ/SQ that you will never be tired of ,an excellent demo BD
King kong The Audio simply blows and i consider this to be the BD to put any system under attack ,this will expose the weakness of any amp
Kung FU Panda makes a great BD for PQ demo ,the SQ is equally exciting
Kung FU hustle though this BD lacks HD audio , i cud say this one is a great disc to show off, almost every scene is demo material, and the audio cud threaten your set up
Terminator Salvation forget the movie but there sure are scenes for demo which rock
Knowing multiple Demo scenes gauranteed cud shake up everything

skipped Avataar as it already seems to have topped the chart

Was your "Ffth Element" the REMASTERED version? There was a release before it that was worse. Which version is yours? I have the remastered version and I heard it was good.. not seen it yet.. Waiting for my oppo-83 to arrive and then need to buy TV to watch (or will watch over at a friend's place ;))

I think I've the remastered version only. I'm not talking in terms of overall picture quality but about the scenes where you can see the Aliens. They seems very plasticky and the glitches are more visible to due to High Def transfer I guess. Not a problem with the Blu-ray but the movie itself was done long time back and graphics/animation/getup not used to be that great in those days. Specially check the Head of the Diva on side view or the Aliens who comes to earth to the Pyramids in the initial scenes. Another scene is of the spacecraft(when Bruce and Liloo goes to meet the Diva) from a long shot with the starlit sky as background and you can clearly see a square box surrounding the spacecraft.

If there's one BD which wows people more than Avatar, it's surprisingly... Sivaji!

While visuals are usually subtle in English movies, Sivaji has an overdose of color, contrast and artificial sharpening. Plus, there's usually more objects and props in one frame that you'll see in an entire English movie.

If English movies are like Pizza, Sivaji is like spicy hot chettinad chicken curry. And it wows people instantly. My friends who have a look at Sivaji usually end up telling me why blu-ray is much better than cinema theatre. LOL! :D

PS: I only have a high quality rip of Sivaji. In fact this rip outdoes my blu ray discs when it comes to wowing people. I would love to know where I could buy Sivaji blu ray. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Sivaji was shot in 35mm and mastered in 4K resolution.. So there will be wow for the film.. colour manipulation is easy when it is done with 4K resolution...... You can buy the BD here...Pop Window

Hi Vramak,

+1 to your post on BD. Yes, the PQ of Sivaji is outstanding and impressive and I would say it will be my reference for BD, at least for tamil BDs.

Also, you could buy one from Sivaji Blu-ray (Tamil Blu-ray) Bollywoodblu-ray: Amazon.co.uk: DVD

Cheers!

Can't this BD be bought in India ? At 18GBP (26USD, 1400INR) this BD is very expensive in the UK. Even for the wow factor it gives, this price is ridiculously high when you factor in the shipping cost. :(

I heard Baraka is outstanding .. 8K resolution.. does anyone own it? I might buy it as I read rave reviews about it.

It costs Rs.1499 in that site. Plus it's said the BD is sourced from the US.

I guess at Rs.1499 Sivaji BD doesn't represent good value. I think I'd rather wait for an Indian release at a saner price. Thanks for the link tho! :)
