Post Top 5 BluRay discs you own

Not a problem with the Blu-ray but the movie itself was done long time back and graphics/animation/getup not used to be that great in those days. Specially check the Head of the Diva on side view or the Aliens who comes to earth to the Pyramids in the initial scenes. Another scene is of the spacecraft(when Bruce and Liloo goes to meet the Diva) from a long shot with the starlit sky as background and you can clearly see a square box surrounding the spacecraft.

The movie is not that old, it was released in 97, (Terminator 2 came in 91 - so we cant say effects were not great in "those days") though I have not seen the BR for the same, I am surprised the way you have discribed, it sounds pathetic......is it that bad......if I remember the visuals were stunning.
I was hoping to see it again on BR.....

It costs Rs.1499 in that site. Plus it's said the BD is sourced from the US.

I guess at Rs.1499 Sivaji BD doesn't represent good value. I think I'd rather wait for an Indian release at a saner price. Thanks for the link tho! :)

It's sold for very less here in the Ayngaran Website UK. At today's exchange rate it's around 900 Rs, I'm planning to visit there shop sometime next month. Need to see if I can get some good bargain.

I liked the visuals a lot when I watched in VCD/DVD some time back. But I was not at all impressed with the Blu-ray as it showed the flaws of the getups. Not everything is bad but a few scenes as I've mentioned in my posts. I didn't like it as I found that distracting. But the movie itself is still entertaining.

No one a fan of Criterion Blu-Rays here? They are apparently great.

I only own a few but the ones I would consider based on reviews -

Any Criterion
The Godfather Trilogy (Coppola Restoration)
The General (Kino Video's first and apparently great blu-ray
Avatar (though I didn't like the movie)
2001 - A Space Odyssey - I own and can vouch is great
The Matrix
The Bourne Trilogy
Die Hard Quadrology
Shutter Island (Great sound effects - should be awesome on blu-ray)
Dark City (Great movie apparently which compares to The Matrix which looks awesome on blu-ray)
Band of Brothers

My top five:

1. Avatar
2. The Dark Knight (can't omit - my fav)
3. Transformers 2 - Revenge of the fallen
4. Iron Man
5. Matrix - 10th Anniversary edition

Cool! Hope a similarly priced version hits Indian shores too.

Another one I will add to this list - Sunrise. Great movie, great reviews. I am buying this blu-ray and can't wait to see it.

well, my question is slightly different.. the english dvd/blurays that are sold in india, are they censored? the f words and the 'scenes'.. dont get me wrong, they just make or break the movies at time.. spoiling the overall experience..

DVDs Yes. But not the blu rays. Anyways in India, mostly we are getting PG13 blu ray titles only. At least I didn't see any bluray titles which contains lot of gore and other Adult content released in india.

i agree avatar is best..i want 2 buy 3d tv...then will surely buy avatar ..at present downloaded br-iso 46gb file and watching it on 50" lg plasma, via hdmi quadcore computer... not yet bought bluray player...

To me the criteria for buying a movie is story, direction, acting, etc. - all the old adages. The only exception to this has been Avatar which in my view is a very poor film if you take out the CGI, animation, etc.

I hated the 1.78:1 to 2.40:1 switch in The Dark Knight. In my opinion, it should have been one format only.

The blu-rays that I have liked contain some surprisingly lesser known films. My top 5 are as follows:
  1. National Treasure
  2. Inception
  3. Race to Witch Mountain
  4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part I
  5. Star Trek 4 - The Voyage Home
Note that I am selecting my top 5 from my BD titles only. If I just make my favourites list (difficult to keep it to 5), they are as under:
  1. Casablanca
  2. Benhur
  3. The Godfather Trilogy
  4. Terminator II - The Judgement Day
  5. Love Actually
  6. The Lord of the Rings - Trilogy (Extended)
  7. Star Wars - The Original Trilogy
  8. The Ten Commandments
  9. My Cousin Vinny
  10. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
  11. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
  12. Inception
  13. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
  14. Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of Black Pearl
  15. The Wizard of Oz
  16. The Italian Job
  17. The Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy
  18. American Pie
  19. Sneakers
  20. Ocean's Eleven
  21. Back to the Future Trilogy
  22. Aliens
  23. The Departed
