i imported a lot from Schanffner

post diwali
the power strip/cum passive filter will be ready

the cable is german
the contacts are furukawa copper gold plated

Hi All

we are taking initial interest orders for the distribution box

These are not just extension boxes but passive power conditioners using a surge protector and an RF EMI filter

here are the specs

Sockets
US 3 pin (Pure copper ) - sourced from SINE 15A - very close to Oyaide
Euro Schuko - mennekens Germany 16A

Full point to point wiring using Lapp Kabel - germany or equivalnet Kabel - 3mm sqaure
Pure Copper lugs from Lapp germany

Elcom or Neutrik ( SWISS) power con IEC
RF EMI filter from Schaffner (Germany) or
Custom Made acoustically neutral Pine case with internal damping



includes 4 sockets
If more are required they can be provided as long as they fit in the custom casing which have been qty produced



I would like some help and advice
on the following

What is the general choice of sockets required?

I would assume most guys having good cables that have been bought from known brands use American 3 pin plugs
Some use Euro Schuko

Ali - if you look at my gear, i have multiple ones, US, UK, and India. I use the multi pin sockets which takes any type. It will make better value if thats possible so one does not have to worry about the pin type

I also use some supra power cable which has uk plug, one cable has us plug

I use crabtree universal sockets so all goes there

If someone needs distribution box to be future proof then universal plug is best bet

It would be good if you could give an approximate price range. Would help members to decide.

I would be interested in one box. My HiFi cables are Schuko.

It would be wonderful if you could provide only distribution boxes. In which case I would be interested in one or two of those in addition to above. These would be with Indian sockets.

"Universal" sockets usually are not OK for Euro Schuko pins because the Euro grounding scheme is very different. "Universal" works well for Indian, UK and US pins. If one has Euro power cables, it is good to use a dedicated Euro socket.

thank you so much for your inputs

the problem is as joshua says

FOr the uS plug and Schuko plug i can instll really high quality sockets
Infact the US plug i source from SINE which is almost as good as Oyaide
and has PUre furukawa copper terminals
For Schuko i am using Bals - Germany
these provide the earth as well as a superb tight fit and excellent contact to schuko male pins

this is what the correct schuko socket is
with the earth from Bals germany
European/Schuko Socket Outlet (YGB-012) - China Schuko Socket, Waterproof Socket

however the "international" multiplug has very um,m regular quality
Not only do they not provide a tight fit to the US and Schukos
i have found no manufacturer using copper terminals
they dont even use brass

they use a steel alloy and the more decent ones use "phosphor bronze" stamped sheet metal

i think only the Unica series from Schneider(GERMANY) uses brass
and these are not availble in INdia
and though i am trying to source them its not easy
In fact only the Schneider provides a tight fit to the US pin and Schuko pins
(ONLY the UNICA series though)

i guess ill have to try harder to get the Schneiders

Sorry, my mistake there. My HiFi cables are UK type.

If so, then it is two boxes with 4 socket each.

How big and heavy will these be?
I use Zephyr by Audire. It is very bulky and heavy. I find it difficult to even shift inside my room.

That will be a cvt or an online ups

We are talking about just a distribution box which if in wood should be 3 or 4 kgs

Zephyr is a power conditioner (rated at 2KVA), with cut off at low or high voltages and 5-6 power outlets (distribution box). Almost similar to what magma is proposing. It does not have any stab/cvt/ups etc.

but another client and dealer adviced we used pine

My distribution Box
should have the following specs - it is basically a passive device

Lapp cable point to point wiring 3mm sqaure
20A surge protection unit
EMI RFI filter
pure copper lugs from Mennekans
6 Sockets from Schneider ( germany) - Copper based 16Amp rated
Custom wood casing with damping

size is not small
a 6 pc box will measure about 6 inches by 14inches

the components weigh
1.4 kgs

dunno how much the box will end up weighing though
probably rikhav is correct in his estimation
