I have been using optoma HD66 for almost two years now. I was out of town for a week and when i switched on the PJ today, which was working perfectly when I switched it off last, is acting weird. It shows inverted logo with UI in Italian?(seems like something has reset or..) Doesn't detect any input signal (its connected through AVR). Doesn't respond to remote. Pushing buttons on PJ works inadvertently. Even the shutdown countdown was not smooth. The counter was stuck (9, 8, 7...).

One thing I noticed was it was hot right away(the room AC was not on). I have mounted it within a wooden box. Could it be heat, though the heat indicator wasn't lit. Any thoughts?

It is not surprising since electronics almost always malfunction suddenly sometimes after the unit is switched off! Try to change the language to English and do a factory reset in the settings. Keeping projector inside closed enclosure is not advisable. If it had become too hot, it could very well be the reason. Inverted display could be due to projection settings I suppose. Regarding the input detection, try to connect directly with the source and press HDMI button on the optoma remote to force it to search. Set the display resolution to 720p on your source and try; rarely that could be a problem. Try composite video-in if you can since HDMI board is prone to failures more frequently.

Finally I got hold of a company Accurate Maintenance co. in Delhi. They claim to be service providers for many leading PJ brands. Anywaz they picked up my PJ and said some leakage of current through HDMI cable has burnt the main chip. I was charged 6K for repair.

However I now can not get my PJ to detect video signal from AVR. Direct connection to TataSky Box works which rules out issue with PJ or cable. I have tried everything - restarting in recommended order for HDMI handshake, tired various/shorter HDMI cables but I just cannot get it to detect HDMI signal from AVR

I cannot do a microprocessor reset because buttons on my AVR don't work anymore and I have been using remote only for some time now. Does anyone know if it can be done with remote.

Asides- I am getting bit frustrated with Denon now. My earlier 1610 unit also developed issues with front panel within two years and now this 2312. I am loosing faith in Denon, the brand that I was so in love with while growing up.

Any thoughts ?

BTW this is the chip from OPtoma PJ that went bad:

The Hdmi board on the denon is fried. Get denon to service the unit. Will cost you 4.5k. There must have been a spike in voltage for this to happen. Consider installing spike busters/ voltage stabiliser or an online ups to avoid such an occurrence in the future. Try using other video inputs on the denon avr first to confirm whether they are in working order.
Cheers

Most likely this is the case. even simple VGA out from denon is not giving picture.Given that my tataSky was also not working(they had to change a component on the dish) and the PJ chip also got burnt, I am suspecting it was due to a surge from DTH line. I also read on few forums about HDMI boards frying due to surge from cable co.

I haven't spoken to Denon service centre yet but searched online for Denon reapir and spoke to couple of technicians and they are telling me that the HDMI board is pretty expensive ..upward of 20K!. They are advising its better to buy a external HDMI switch and use it for multiple inputs rather than getting the board changed. One even suggested that I open up the lid and send him the picture of HDMI board so that, if possible, he can asses the damage...may be there is a fuse for surge protection.

MST3363CMK-LF-170 is HDMI controller chip price Rs 1200.

The surge is usually in the electrical circuit of your house, unlikely due to your dth cable. That could happen during a storm with lightning conduction causing damage. The hdmi board used to cost 4.5k in 2012, that quote of 20k is from a tech trying to make a quick buck. Mind you, it is usually the hdmi board that fries, lack of signal from VGA and other inputs is a concern and indicates something more sinister.

with more and more products being "made in china" under poor quality maintenance it has become a real problem to buy electronic products..........
