Pune HFV Meet 2010

Dear Jaggervm /fellow members,
Considering present update in data-sheet, we have sufficient members (14) to be busy for approx 5 hrs of audition approx. (long enough to give some people ear-fatigue). This is considering each members demo lasts for 20 mins on average (sufficient for 4 types of music, that a given combo/setup plays well).
I am budgeting approx 1 hr of additional time as equipment setup time, that will get used up during these audtions, as we connect /disconnect gear. So total time involved is 6 Hrs approx. (See bottom of this post for present status of data-sheet)

I am posting my initial thoughts on time-planning of the event as follows:
1. It should be post-lunch session starting from 1pm to end at 7pm (yes, it means you have early lunch at home then scoot of to venue), with tea + refreshments around 4pm during the auditions. (cause the lunch time may break the continuity of audition, plus organizing lunch in a community hall becomes another distraction)

2. We should try for common songs for the combos /setups that are known to be good in same genre of music. For e.g if 3 setups are known to be good in soft rock, then they should have a common song like Hotel California to be played on all of them. This would be more informative for all HFV members, cause they will know what are the subtle /dramatic differences between such setups.

3. I hope the participating members would be ok with their gear being mated with other members gear. Considering this in mind, I propose that participating member may demo his gear with entirely his own setup or mate it with other members gear, if that mixed setup is expected to sound good. (I have already expressed this under Preference heading for my gear. To reflect this concept the heading is now renamed to Preference (gear mating). Refer data-sheet image below.

4. So guys, please make entry of your preference in the data-sheet. If we have these preferences decided in advance, it will help us in scheduling setup connecting/disconnecting as we move from one setup to another.

The above are just initial thoughts; do chip in with your suggestions. Also volunteers are welcome who can help me in venue hunting.

Sonosphere

Hi Jaggervm,
I hope you have some vinyls to play on the TT. What have you got?
I request other members also to post the names of vinyl albums they own /can arrange from somebody esle.

I also hope you have a phono-preamp? So do get that along... since I am not sure if the any of the integrated amps in data-sheet presently, have a phono input.

Regds,
Sonosphere

We have the First Turntable entry in gear list !!! Its a Denon DP-29F, from Jaggervm.

Now we can taste the magic of TT :yahoo:. Thanks Jaggervm!!

Jag /fellow participants, please get some good sounding vinyls along now.

the TT has a built in Phono Preamp, so can be connected to ant amp, directly.

I will get a 4-5 vinyls of different genre. WIll post the list by tonight.

Also would like to state that I have no qualms about hooking up the TT to any system. SO anyone keen to hear some vinyls on their setup are gladly welcome.

Average of 20 mins seems ok, however, if we have some systems with really good synergy, we may like to spend some more time auditioning. So in my opinion, we should keep some contingency.

Also, limiting the number of systems to 14-15 is a good idea. This should give ample time to enjoy each system and overall the show instead of hurrying through the show. Just my opinion, others' suggestions invited.

Hi, Mubeen,
Reg 20 mins duration... that is suggested average duration. Yes, after finalising the gear collection, I suppose we can have consensus to spend more time with one combo and lesser with others.

Reg limiting to 14-15 systems, I suggest that we will continue with the request to have more gear offered for demo, however at appropriate time in coming days, we will make an assessment of gear available (lets say we end up with 20 combos) and then short-list them into the best possible 14-15 combos for final demo.

So, this is to those in an around Pune, having more hi-end stuff than what we already have (refer data-sheet). Please let us have the pleasure of a short-demo of your prized possesions... Please express your interest to join the event... asap

I guess bringing manuals of equipment will help, particularly if it has to be connected to other person's equipment.

Hi askii,
It will help, however we leave it to the gear-owner's discretion to bring it or not.

Unless a speaker is rated for 4 ohm or lower, I don't see any "regular" amps having a problem. I haven't heard sources (DAC, CDP) creating any issues while mating with amps... (I am talking about incidents of sources resulting in amp blowout).

Thanks for higlighting the issue.

Sad news guys, i have been informed today at work that i have to travel to Chennai for an assignment of 3-4 months, flying this Wednesday

What can i say, i would be really sad to miss this event. May be if theres any Chennai meet in next 3-4 months, i would like to pop in to say hello to Chennai members. Can't do much as i cant possibly carry my system with me

Thanks Sonos and all for planning and participating in this. You guys have a good one. All the best! I will be eager to read about the meet, and I will see you all later sometime.

Hi Mubeen,
That's really sad for us. Anyway, as Pink Floyd have already said... The show must go on, wish you were here.

Have a good time in Chennai,

Hi guys,
There has been lull on this threads this week. I got busy on some urgent issues, so couldn't report anything new.

Ok, here is a request to all involved with this meet. Please see if you help in getting a venue for this event. The venue should be like a medium sized hall (say 16feet x 20feet or bigger). Pls see if your housing society has something like this that can be given for approx 6 hrs. If there are any charges levied by society for such purpose, let me know.

I am facing some difficulty in getting the "Tennis-room" of our housg society to be used for this "personal function" (my own home is presently not suitable for this). Hence request your help.

Hello Everybody,
Are we one right track in organizing this meet? Please let me know if help is required.

Hi,
It is very much on track, even though the pace has slowed down a bit, as I am hunting for appropriate venue to hold this meet. Do let me know if you can help in getting one.

Can I join?

Hi Sono,

Sorry for seeing this thread so late.

I want to join just to learn from you people. I have nothing to offer but a brand new topping TP20 amp. Can I join with that amp?

Hi Guys,

I'm in Pune too, and would love to join, if its on the 12th. Can't do 11th.

I have uodated the Google Doc with my stuff.

I can also offer a free place at Wanawadi, about 400 sqft, wood floor, free refreshments, i.e. my listening room. If interested, please let me know timings etc. Alternately, I can also come wherever you guys wanna go, but don't know how much of my gear I can carry, as its all wired up, and would be a giant pain to haul some of it.

Look forward to it, cheers

Viki
