Hello All Experts,
A Very very thanks for your kind replies regarding my curiosities. Now, I want to know that what is a SMART TV and what about its SMART FUNCTIONS likewise for Samsung

Samsung Apps,
Samsung SMART TV,
Family Story,
Search All,
Fitness,
Skype on Samsung TV,
Kids,
Smart Hub,
Social TV,
Web Browser,
Your Video,

What is the requirement for accessing these functions, Is there a CPU required, or an Internet connection or FTTH IP TV connection.

Plz. guide... Thanx

a tv made for dumb peopole ..

smart people buy DUMB TV ....unfortunatl;y right now some good featured TVs are always smart TV.

Now buy a dumb TV and buy an android media player or USB android stick

if you are ok with long HDMI cable attach a laptop to your TV with HDMI..( if lap has HDMI out - which all modern lap has - Problem solved - it wil be Smarter than smart Tv !)

All these smart apps/functions are marketing gimmick. You will not even use them maybe 1% of the time. Since most high-end models are jammed with smart features, one does not have much choice. Yet, avoid any feature that jacks up the cost - for example, built-in camera, etc.

Yes its true that no one use all these features of smart tv, I bought smart tv 4 months ago, still never used even 1 % of it. But still i am enjoying the picture clarity other than that all are gimmick and useless

Smart TV functions are incredibly useful for me. I use it for the following things:

1)Hulu Plus app for streaming TV shows
2)Amazon Instant Video app for movies/TV shows. (I'm an Amazon Prime member so most of the stuff is free.)
3)YouTube
4)I setup Plex media server on my PC and I use it to stream loads of content on my PC.
5)I have around 9000 songs organised in iTunes on my PC and streaming to my TV is incredibly easy now.
6)It allows my to connect my iPad to the TV to be used as a remote which really comes in handy as it can be used as a keyboard.

My setup consists of:

Bedroom:
LG 55inch LM6700 3D TV
Sony 5.1 Home Theater System
PS3
XBOX 360 + Kinect

Living Room:
PC
Optoma HD67 3D Projector
150inch Screen
Onkyo HT-RC270 receiver
Polk 7.1 Sound System
Nvidia 3D vision

Also on the same network:
Macbook Air
iPad

With all these devices and all that data, I'm happy that my LG TV is a Smart TV (I didn't plan on buying a Smart TV. I chose a TV that I liked and it turned out to be a Smart TV.) as it fits well into my ecosystem and makes it easy to access all my stuff.

It really depends on how much you are into all this.

The laptop/HTPC solution is bit heavy weight and to me its not very practical. I don't want to keep my PC running all the time.

All my media photo/music/video - both movies/tv shows and personal are on NAS. So I can just pull and play anything I want on my TV without any additional box.

Also, I capture lot pictures/video of my kids on phone and share them with family very without connecting any wires.

As someone said before, I didn't plan for this but all top of the line model comes with these features, so might as well use them ;).

I have a TV which has some smart features like Youtube, internet browser etc.
but these all are nonsense features, at least for me. I must say I have not used even 1% of these features.
I had bought the TV, because it was rated as best LED of that time producing excellent picture quality.

However I do remember using smart features of TV once in a while.

- It has a wireless dongle inbuilt which helps in updating the TV's software from wireless internet automatically.
- Once upon a time, during a friends gathering; one friend suggested to watch Kanti Shah's famous movie 'GUNDA'. I didn't have the movie that time; but the movie is available on Youtube easily; so we watched it by streaming on youtube on TV and had a great day full of laughter. This feature came really handy ;)

Thanx for kind reply

If your laptop has a HDMI out, then you already have the smartest TV setup.:)
But having a long hdmi cable till the sofa is a mess.
If any wireless options exist ,say, via a dongle , then no smart tv can beat your setup.

Why does any one need to connect laptop to TV for normal purposes such as browsing, Web chatting, Skype, etc.? Severe neck pain is assured.

I hardly use the smart features, but I tnink it depends on the indivisual... If someone is really into gadgets, then these features can be handy like posted by some other members in this thread... S
U know urself better... And by the way.. Like mentioned here, all high end models by default comes with these features...so we do not have much choice...but what I did when I bought my 2bd tv was, instead of wifi inbuilt , magic motion remote and other features, I bought obe size higher, as I kbew from my 2011 exp that I wiil be hardly using them..

Very true.
One probable scenario: You want to watch youtube on your TV, but need selection of video like typing to be retained on your laptop. Typing on the TV with the remote is a pain.

Don't let the 'Smart' part be a decision maker. Some people I knew thought that going for it makes sense, even if they did not require it now, just to future proof the TV. However you can easily get a lot of media players / android players that you can connect to the TV and make the make it 'Smart', if you feel the need.
For me, it was just 3K additional (+ an additional 2K recently for the wifi dongle), and I was not as wise then as I am now :).

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
