Hi guys, I am starting this thread for the people like me for taking decision easily if wanted to buy a system. So the format will be

Receiver name: xxxx
Speaker package:xxxx
Cost: xxxx
Rating for sound quality for..
music: 1 to 10 ( 1 is dissatisfied and 10 is extremely satisfied)
Movies: 1 to 10 ( 1 is dissatisfied and 10 is extremely satisfied)

I think this will help everybody like me who can not decide which system to buy. Everyone love their system and definitely wants to say something about it can also post their experience along with rating :)

So let's start rating your systems..and ofcourse I will need the rating for this combo as well :) I am getting an offer from reliance digital on marantz nr 1504 + BS xs 5.1 + Philips blue ray for 55k.

Thank you.

I think no one wants to share their experience and rating..:S

Akshay,

We all been here just to understand what we miss in our current set-up to reach the quality which we expect. We end up in setting after a long discussion and audition and after some time the expectation would get High and we will run for upgrade or chances to improve the current set-up.

Might be we need to have a Home studio for having 10/10 and even that too would be static rating only.

So you cant find muuh response as not everybody like to rate their setpup in the common forum. Possibly they could give idea about the speaker\amp
dac\source SEPARATELY .

Rating a system is highly subjective. There is no ideal system and never will be.
You pick systems depending on what YOU like . Others can't tell you what you like. They will tell you what 'they' like and how will you know what their reference is ?
Everyone has preferences and they usually needn't be for sound that's REALLY accurate ! Like Indian curries, they have their own preference for a certain 'flavour' which varies from person to person. It could coincide with your likes but it isn't guaranteed.

You better first 'listen' to some systems belonging to friends to determine what kind of sounds they like and how much all that costs. Then you can start from an 'informed' position about what you should look for.

If you are going in blindly and think you might or can upgrade later, think of the following .
Power amp : between 20 to 50 watts per channel. ( Rs 25 K ?)
Speakers: Bookshelf with at least a 6 inch bass driver. ( under Rs30K )
Media player: possibly a bluray player ( will take care of your video also)
You need to ask around what other find good. ( below 15K ?)
Decent cables and interconnects . Nothing exotic required.
Speaker stand ! Unless you opt for a floor stander.

Your disc player could possibly improve later with an outboard DAC. Etc.
I'd say it could take at least a couple of years before you really get used to your system and determine what all you 'might' want to improve upon.

Since most hi-fi purchases have low resale value ( unless it is a cult item!) do your research well before plonking your money down. Listen to what everybody says. But eventually trust your own ears about what YOU like !
The bottom line is " audition, audition, audition " before plonking your money down. Lots of money does not guarantee that you will get what you like ! Only your ear can determine that !
Have fun.

I totally agree with you my friend. I just wanted to know the particular system combos, so that I will have the options ready for auditioning rather than just going blindly and listen anything. Yesterday I have done my audition for the most rated system on this forum, I.e. marantz + BA xs combo. Now I feel that is not made for me. So I have started new thread for my requirements. Can you please suggest me something on basis of that...thx
