Rotel Ra10 being the new leader of budget amps -- as the What HI-FI review march 13 -- suggests, will it have enough power to drive a pair of floorstanders?... say Focal Chorus 726. The power output of the amp is 40W and the floorstanders in question is 91.5db.

At present I drive those speakers with a vintage Kenwood amp (Ka2200) with a power output of 150w per channel at 8ohms. I sound is nice and warm. But Kenwood being a 80's amp does not have the wide frequency response which we get to see in the spec of a recent amp.

Is it a good idea to retire the Kenwood and bring in the Rotel RA10? Or is it just my upgraditis taking the call here:rolleyes:

Madman Sir Please do not go by the fancy reviews about this new babe it provide 40wpc where in you Focal FS is 250 RMS So go for a powerful amp....I envy your FS: clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

thats a powerful speaker. you will need to go higher to really get best quality out of it. at low volumes it may perform but will not give the juice once you go higher. also rotels dont pair easily with many speakers. so make sure you listen to the setup before you go in for a rotel. as a thumb rule i would normally spend approx 50:50 on speakers : amp out of my budget. so dont go for a budget amp for speakers that good

Thanks Maxpro, I got the same feedback from my friends.

Thanks Afj, I think I have to up the budget quiet a few k's to get a good amp.
I am also thinking of a one amp solution for home theater and stereo. On that note I am also thinking about Yamaha RX-A3020. After discount it comes for approx 115k. I has a 5 star rating in What Hi-Fi. As for stereo output it does a decent job out of it.
The other option is Pioneer LX56. But with class D amplification I am not too sure about the SQ.

whats your overall plan. do you want to go ht or stay stereo. its going to cost you quite a bit to match the rest of your system to the current speakers if youre going ht. so if budget is not a problem you can go for it. if you want a ht amp that will play music well you will have ideally be looking at nad / cambridge. though i must say extremely expensive. at the least marantz. your other option is to stay in stereo mode. you will have better sound quality at a given budget - you wont have sounds coming out from around the room but you will have it coming out of the front two speakers.

Right now I have a yamaha speaker set for the HT(Which I am not going to change soon). And Ht is not the main thing I want to focus on. But an "One Amp Rules All" sort of solution is welcome as it has much higher WAF and makes life much easier with cables.

So an amp which is reasonably good in Stereo performance and does HT with a price tag of 100K is OK with me.

So the hunt begins. Right now Yamaha RX-a3020 is a option. Will love to hear from other FM's what they have to say about this. I also intend to add a universal disc player to the setup and Pioneer BDP LX55 looks good to me. If thing doesn't sound too good for stereo I am also willing to throw in a Dac (say ARCAM rDac) in the rig.

I also have a TT (SL 1210 MK2) which is connected with a Cambridge Audio 640p Phono stage at present, which I intend to keep.

A pretty complicated situation - one might say - with very limited money.
