Another 2 cents.....I did a lot of blind testing with my Oppo 103 (mind you this has a much lesser DAC than the audiophile Oppo 105. Switching between my Oppo direct and Oppo - DAC combo.......was apparent. The lows did sounded a bit richer, the vocals a bit more coherent etc. However when I played the entire track without and then with the DAC, I was hard pressed to tell the difference. The points I want to make are.......unlike speakers, a DAC will not be a game changer, the law of diminishing returns is most obvious in this component and placebo effect is a factor....so don't spend too much time or money trying to get the best DAC, spend that extra money on a good amp and speakers........
