Sad & Shocking News: Panasonic to stop Plasma TVs from 2013

So Panasonic will remain in the plasma lineup afterall. That is good news. I frankly do not believe that the standard consumer middle-class oriented LED TVs can beat plasma as of today - be it size vs. price, be it PQ, be it colour reproduction, black levels, etc. Some LED TVs can only just about match the performance and they will be much more expensive. Although, things can change in future but in my opinion LED TVs will just about match plasma specs and may be same price or cheaper.

From the new Panasonic lineup, I have observed:

- there are no HD-Ready models
- the 'S' series is a welcome addition for those who want a VFM TV but not 3D
- the U/UT and X/XT series have disappeared
- the GT series seems to have disappeared too
- new line - the ZT series and probably at higher specs than the VT series

TC-PZT60 series (65 and 60 inches) Panasonic's 2013 flagship promises "Beyond the Reference" picture quality, with an all-new Studio Master panel that has the thinnest gas layer yet, which the company says will remove dim and double images. There's a newly developed red phosphor, faster switching than ever, THX certification for both 2D and 3D, and improved 3D performance -- namely less crosstalk -- according to Panasonic. I called the VT50 the best TV of 2012 and one of the best ever, and I expect great things from the ZT60's picture.

there's no doubt panasonic is gonna rock this year with the plasma line up but the question is are they gonna launch it in India?
My thoughts:

- I expect that we shall see the S60, ST60 to be launched and sold in India.
- The Indian launch is not expected before May at the very least going by past experience.
- VT60 and ZT60 may see the web pages but not the showrooms.
- May see continued sales of the existing stock of X50, XT50, UT50 (and perhaps ST50 and GT50)

My launch price guesses (in INR):

Model: MRP/Negotiated
42S60: 90K/75K
50S60: 110K/90K
42ST60: 105K/85K
50ST60: 122K/105K
65VT60: 350K/320K
65ZT60: 400K/350K

p/s. One correction. I see that X60 is in the lineup too. It is a 720p successor to X50.

Why don't we get 55" and 60"....?
Possibly because 50"/55" and 60"/65"will directly compete against each other and canibalise. I am not exactly sure of the Panasonic plasma India sales numbers but I am pretty sure that it is not stellar by any means (only "idiots" like us buy plasma).

So as was thought, Panasonic has consolidated the number of models on offer.

Team: heard from a very dependable source that Panasonic will not sell Plasma's in India (and mostly outside too) from Jan 2013. That's the reason you see shortage of Plasma and they are currently clearing stocks (they have anyway very little).

If you are planing on buying the Panasonic plasma's better wait and watch as I will be worried with service and availability of parts.

I don't think so.Please refer this link.Thanks!

Sixteen new plasma TVs from Panasonic for 2013, none that break into larger classes

The new flagship series is the ZT60. Only available in 60 and 65-inches, it is the only one in the lineup that offers "Beyond the Reference" level of picture quality and ultimate black color with its Studio Master Panel.

I think that Samsung will also get out of plasma business soon.

On the contrary Samsung just introduced new Plasma models. check out CES 2013: Samsung's new Plasma, LCD TVs to have powerful new CPUs
