Samsung Galaxy S Android Phone - Is Eclair 2.1 upgradeable to Froyo 2.2

iPhone 4 < 30K in any dream, infact I would not be surprised if its like 45..lol ....
3GS is still at 30 ...... u tell me ... lol

Exactly! My hope is that when Iphone 4 is launched whatever crazy price they come up with (I still believe 30K would be reasonable:o, but of course not expected :)), the other's will reduce the price a little at least and the Droid X will also have some impact, we may end up getting the same Galaxy S for about 22-24K.

BTW any comments on XT720, this also looks like a good sub 30K android available in India.

Let me know if i can give any more info

Yes of course. :)

Hows the camera of Galaxy S? And also hows the web browsing experience with it?

And this is more of a casual question- Isnt it difficult to handle and manage such a big phone like Galaxy S?

I personally dont like phones with huge display and sizes which mean you have to spend all the more effort in handling them all the time!

@goyal - Yes i also felt the same, phone would be too big for me and all as none of the shops had demo pieces! - After seeing that HTC HD2 or something which had 4.3Inches screen.

But trust me due to its slim and rounded feature its easy on your hands... and as for me screen is so beautiful i forget its big!

Phone is very usable in usual env and it's so visible in direct sunlight too its so much visible.

Camera is good not bad - I think not SonyEricsson comparable ofcourse but good - Will not replace ur Camera but good enough if you forget one. You will not feel bad as you can capture everything in good quality.

But be aware of One thing - Pics taken by camera, when seen in Phone will look great due to its screen, but when u trsf to Comp might be unhappy as u expected more!

Hope that helps

I am planning to buy a phone very soon and after much research I shortlisted 2 phones- Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire. At this point of time I am more inclined towards the Galaxy S.

Galaxy S-

+ Super Amoled screen
+ Good hardware specs
- Average camera without flash (LED flash is important as I can use it is a torch which I use extensively with my current phone (SE W550i)

HTC Desire-

+ Sense UI
+Good camera with LED flash
- Not launched officially in India.

I am going on a weekend trip and would probably buy the phone on Monday. So please if anyone have any suggestions do let me know. :)

And a little query- Are super AMOLEDS too bright even at the lowest brightness setting? I have sensitive eyes and wouldnt like to be straining them too much! I keep my phone, laptop etc at the lowest brightness setting!

Regards

@goyal - Well i do accept HTC Sense UI is very good so same way i was also confused like you.

Well UI - you can use or buy Launcher Pro Home screen replacement - If you buy only 140rs, otherwise the free one also good only widgets are not free and some other settings, i used it before buying ... So that is really sweet and good looking - I love this App.

Brightness - It auto adjust so i dnt feel much - As when i go in sunlight it will brighten up and when in home tone it down! - But lot of tools to adjust.

And no its no very bright as lowest setting as when i fully discharge battery <10% charge it dims and after all lights switched off also it never strained my eyes!

News for Sam9s, HTC Desire is officially launched in India. Selling price is 27.5k if I'm not wrong.

BTW, I had opened a thread some months back asking for good PMP (Portable Media Player). Well, it seems I don't need to look any further. Samsung Galaxy S seems to be filling up that void. Copied some movies (.mkv, .avi, mp4) to the SD card and all of them are being played effortlessly by the phone. Will check with m2ts and other formats soon. And on that Super AMOLED screen the movies are just getting more alive then ever before.

16GB.. I don't think 8GB is available. If you think about VFM then this product is really is. As of now the best price I heard is 27.2k at Bangalore. With the advent of Desire, I feel the price will further soon.

Thanks. But your last line has landed me in a fix. :-|

Now I would have to decide whether I should buy the phone now or wait for 1 week or so and check if the price goes down because of launch of HTC Desire.

Edit-

I was doing a bit of research on this phone and found out that Galaxy S screen is prone to scratches unlike the Iphone 4 screen. So I would like to ask how are you all taking care of the screen? Do you use any screen protector or pouch? Also does any screen protector comes with the phone itself? And I hope it doesn't happen but did anyone manage to drop the phone by accident till now?

Regards

I'm currently using a screen protector and the supplied pouch also but I think there were enough tests done on this phone to check how scratch-proof the screen is. And for normal scenarios the screen is quite scratch-proof. But the back cover of the phone is prone to scratches :(
Check this video -> YouTube - ???S ??? ????? GalaxyS Drop Test Seems to be as tough as an iPhone 4..

Its good if there is a pouch supplied with the phone. I have seen few "unboxing" videos and checked some sites as well but none mentions the pouch as an accessory so I had a doubt whether its supplied or not? I was wondering if screen protector would affect the touch sensitivity?

I do not know for sure but I guess IPHONE 4 has a glass panel even on the back side so in that case it would be more prone to damage than the galaxy S since its glass on both sides whereas the Galaxy S has glass on 1 side and plastic on the other!

Well I started this thread a few days back and have seen it grow slowly. I finally bought Samsung Wave a few days back and here is my review.

http://www.hifivision.com/what-should-i-buy/12112-bought-samsung-wave-mobile.html

As of now all I can say is that "DO NOT BUY THE SAMSUNG WAVE". The phone has a major overheating problem. Please read my above review for details.

On researching I have found that the SAMSUNG GALAXY S also has this OVERHEATING problem. Please do your research throughly before buying the Wave or Galaxy or for that matter any smartphone.

Screen protector doesn't at all affect the touch sensitivity. Atleast that's what I've experienced till now.
Yup that pouch is a standard accessory here. And it's a good one.

Well that Glass if I'm not wrong is the same toughened glass used for the front. Even if not it'll definitely be less prone to scratches than the plastic back of SGS. But yeah if it breaks then it'll be a bigger headache to get a replacement than the SGS's plastic back.

Hmmm....even I have bought the phone now. :) Its been about 2 weeks now but sadly my experience has not been good. :(

Whats the killing factor for me is its brightness. Its tooooooo Bright even at lowest setting that it cause strain in eyes. In that case it becomes useless for surfing net which was the basic purpose for which I bought the phone.

I wonder though if other feels the brightness or maybe there is some issue with my phone which I dont think is the case.

Just today I checked an Iphone 4 of a friend and was pleasantly surprised to see the level to which user can set the brightness. It could go down to very low which would have worked very well.

Now I have ordered an Anti-glare screen protector from Ebay which should arrive sometime next week and I am hoping it may reduce some of the brightness and strain as it would turn the glossy screen into a matte one. Lets see what happens.
