Samsung LED tv and sony Home Theatre connection

I have a samsung series 5 full HD tv (LA32C530F1R) which has below audio output (apart from its inbuilt speakers)
1. A mini jack audio out.
2. Digital audio out (optical)

My sony Home Theater (
DAV-DZ640K) has below audio inputs .
1. mini jack audio in
2. RCA audio in
3. Audio Return Channel (HDMI)

The home theater works fine when played using DVD or USB .But
when I connect my tv to home theater, using RCA or mini jack ,the sound quality degrades.(feels no surround sound )and my tv's HDMI version is 1.3 (so no Audio Return Channel )

So what is the best to get better TV audio out of my home theater

pls ensure you use HDMI to connect the HT to the tv. always use HDMI for all video sources over other connections. Also keep in mind, only movies that have been encoded with 5.1 audio will make full use of your HT setup. Sometimes you might find movies with only stereo sound.
