MUSIC SYSTEM , PHILIPS HI Q INTERNATIONAL AMPLIFIER WITH TUNER & SPEAKERS - Kozhikode - CDs - Records
Sorry for being off topic. But can someone explain why drivers in both speakers boxes in above link are on left side (if we look from front)
shouldn't it be like : for left channel speaker driver a little offcentre to LEFT and for right channel speaker driver a little offcentre to RIGHT.
Thanks
addition : I think our HFV member n_thacker is having hi-Q speakers and philips system.

Sorry, but I am not sure what makes you think that the drivers are located on left side. Are you saying this because of the hifi badge? To me it looks like (through the dust cover) the drivers are symmetrically placed, as they should be.

Thanks taureanBull, but the bottom driver looks like are placed on left side in both channel speakers.

Hi Hitensitapara, saw your message a bit late so that justifies the late reply. This is a good observation. My dad used to own the Hi-Q international version while a friend of his had the Hi-Fi international version. Yes your observation is right. In those days, Philips used to mount the main drivers (full range driver in the case of Hi-Q international and the woofer in the case of Hi-Fi international) of the speakers off-centre. If you place both speakers to face you, the main drivers would appear offset to the the right for the left channel speaker while the main driver would appear offset to the left for the right channel speaker. Very few customers and even dealers knew this and hence, a lot of customers ended up getting either 2 left channels speakers or 2 right channel speakers...the same problem has happened to n_thacker's hi-Q international speaker pair as well. While taking the speakers off the shelf and packing them, the dealers in those days seldom paid attention to this. Hence the guy who's selling the Hi-Fi internationa system has not got a matched pair as well. Hope this clarifies.

Beautiful table.

Surely deserves a better cart:)

Please post pics of your beautiful phono stage as well.

Not as nice as gee_john's or Asit's TTs, but my first TT - a Dual 1229.
It has a M91ED, with a very good original stylus, and my pre is
a VSPS assembled on a general purpose board. The VSPS sounds
excellent, esp considering it cost just about Rs 200! I plan to build
Rod Elliott's Subsonic filter ESP-99 soon.

I just completed a DIY full service/restoration of the 1229,
fixing all the issues as noted in this excellent post below on
another forum by Bill of FixMyDual.
In addition, I also changed the old flickering neon
strobe with a DIY LED based replacement.
It was a serious learning experience.

The main failures on the 1229 are as follows:

(1) The tone arm clutch pad (part. # 223777) deteriorates, impairing
tone arm lateral motion during cycling - replace.
(2) The single-multi tone arm height adjustment switch uses a rubber
retainer for positive switching - this deteriorates causing the tone
arm to bind laterally - replace.
(3) The speed selector assembly gets sticky, causing the idler wheel to
have difficulty engaging the motor pulley - clean.
(4) Contacts and lead wires in head-shell and cartridge carrier oxidize,
causing signal loss and/or hum - clean.
(5) The start/stop levers get sticky, causing unresponsiveness, or often
the levers will stick in start position - clean.
(6) The end-of-play trip pawl on the cycling cam becomes under-damped,
causing the machine to "endlessly cycle" - adjust.
(7) The large metal lever that goes to the motor power switch at one end
and to a latch near the arm at the other gets sticky, causing the machine
to have difficulty either starting or stopping motor rotation - clean.
(8) The viscous damping on the cuing fails, causing the arm to drop like
a rock - re-pack with the proper silicone paste.
(9) Motor bearings squeak - open up the motor and oil both top and bottom
bearings with a high speed turbine oil.
(10) Dress the edge of the idler wheel to expose new rubber for positive contact.

@ gee_john: DAMN! That is one su-weet looking table! I WANT!

@ quad: Your table has a beautiful old-world charm. Something about a TT in a wooden box.

I want to post my TT in this thread but the only problem is that I don't have a TT.

more pics more pics... the arm, arm base, platter, motor pulley, headshell with current cart..... more pics bro.
ah .. theres the thanks button!!

More pics !!

Michell Gyrodec SE (Black)
The Michell GyroDec is a three-point spring-suspended turntable with Oil-pumping inverted bearing and single acrylic chassis, aluminium suspended subchassis with stabilized operation and internally isolated suspension turrets turntable. It has impedance-matched acrylic/vinyl platter, with brass weights for high inertia.
Tecno Arm
The Tecno Arm A is a fundamental mechanical rebuild of the well-known RB250 tonearm, to which is added monolithic silver litz cable wiring. The arm tube is bead-blasted and perforated, which disperses structural resonances and yields a lower effective mass. The arm wand is internally damped to reduce resonance further, and the headshell is machined flat, to allow true azimuth relative to the bearing cradle.
Cart: SHURE M97 EE
Phono Stage: ZP3 Zen triode featuring a passive RIAA with tube rectification and tube voltage regulation. Uses 12AX7 tubes for the gain stages and a 12AU7 for the output buffer stage.

Gee-John,

It's a beautiful table. I think you have the limited edition of Gyro SE, perhaps called the Seduction (according to their site), which has all black colour matching. The Mitchell's are wonderful machines. How much did you pay for it? As others opined, let me also say that it deserves a bit better than the M97xE (I am M97xE owner and I think it is very good for the money).

Regards.
