if XBMC is the only purpose and HD Audio (DTS Master audio, DD THD) is not much of a concern, I would also suggest to give a though to RaspberryPi with RaspBMC. I personally have tried it and it works pretty good. as far as cost goes all you need is Raspberry Pi which still comes for 35USD.

Raspberry Pi works like a charm with Openelec.

this will be at least 4K I guess considering that we would be going for Rev-B model and also require to buy a case, memory card, power supply. Also remotes is another expense. So a media player can be better in this comparison at that price point.
