Sony 40EX720 service issue

Hi,

I had purchased sony 40EX720 in Oct 2011 and warranty upto Nov 2012. Now, in Mar 2013 the TV started showing double images so service center guy came and he said that the panel needs to be replaced and it will be done free of cost as panel carries 2 years warranty. Is he telling the truth ?

One thing more, 2-3 days back I got a call from service center and they said sir your panel has arrived please pay Rs.27500 and the call got cut. Then I called the service center guy and asked him about this he said that the panel has not come. Then I called the lady next day and she said I didnt call you.

What rubbish service Sony giving. I am confused now and dunno what to do next ?

Just follow up continuosly with those people. Since you have extended warranty, you should be getting your panel replaced free of cost. Keep a record of your service call number assigned to you, send them an official email about the status (as a record for future use) and follow up through phone. Again, note down all those details (emails, service ID, etc) so that you can use them (for consumer protection) in case you are not getting the right service.

do you have extended warranty? else you will have a warranty for only 1 year and not 2 years and you may have to pay for the new panel.

I dont have extended warranty as i told earlier(warranty upto Nov 2012) still he saying 2 years warranty for panel only and tv carries 1 year warranty.

You shouldn't even think twice if they are replacing it with a brand new piece...

You are very lucky, generally the service people hassle customers a lot before giving them such a good offer. Just make sure that you receive a new set, not a refurbished one.

have not recieved the new tv set....went to service center today and now have to wait some more days as the same model is not available till now or they can issue us a lower model 32" if we wish to. what to do ? does this take so much time ?

After getting used with 40" screen, it would be difficult to be with 32" screen. As all the members are saying, don't rush. Please be patient and as avmaxfan/redisco, see if you can get 40"HX750.

Is HX750 a successor for EX720 ?... I don't think so, but I may be wrong. I guess EX650 is the successor for EX720 ? Am I right ? If so, then dcoolguy can go for either of these four options (NOTE: All these should be 40" and above):

1. Get 2012 model EX-650 without paying any extra money (I am assuming EX650 and EX720 were at the same price range)
2. Get 2012 model HX-750 and pay the extra money (I guess it should be around 12k to 14k extra)
3. Get EX720 equivalent 2013 Sony model without paying anything extra (can it be W700a ??)
4. Get a new 2013 Sony model which is slightly above the EX720 range and ofcourse with paying extra money..)

The main point - Don't agree for the 32" model. The other thing is you need to negotiate for getting the best out of the above 4 options. If am not sounding greedy , I prefer option#3 ... I would like to wait and see what other forum members say ....

No, EX720's successor cannot be EX650 as EX720 was a 3D TV and EX650 is only 2D. So the nearest successor is HX750.

2013 nearest equivalent will be W800.

W700 again, is 2D only and doesn't come in 40 inch.

EX720/HX750/W800 all 3 are about the same price wise. EX720 40" was around 80k and same with HX750 and W800 this year.

Between HX750 and W800 I'd suggest HX750 due to better contrast and overall Picture Quality. W800 will be a major downgrade for you PQ wise as the EX720 had outstanding 5000:1 contrast ratio whereas W800 only has 950:1.

Even with either of these two, should dcoolguy pay extra since EX720/HX750/W800a are at the same price range ? I feel he should naturally get (in case if he doesn't get another 40EX720 as a replacement) either 40HX750 or 40W800a without paying anyting extra ...

NOTE: I understand there might be only a small variation in the price between EX720 vs HX750 vs W800a ... may be .. dcoolguy is required to pay only that small variation (in terms of 2k to 5k) in worst case.
