I've finally decided on the Sony 55EX710. None of the dealers in B'lore seem to have stocks as it's a new model. They've given me a time frame of 1 week.

Information on the internet for this unit is quite hard to come by. Anyone here with any personal experience with this series (EX710)?

Anything to sway my decision?

Usage: HD Content, PC usage & Gaming (mostly PS3), Sports (hopefully via HD channels)

I have a few questions

1) It's 100hz vs. the now outdated NX800 which was 200hz. Is this a major issue?

2) What kind of panel is it? How great / bad is the PQ, especially blacks?

3) How does it compare to the Samsung 55C6900 which is obviously more expensive? Does the Samsung model offer more PQ & features?

4) Any issues with local dimming since it's Edge lit?

5) What kind of pricing can I expect in the grey market?

try the Sony showroom Aidishwar at rajajinagar Hemanth Kumar 9141916929 ,last week when i checked there was a piece available.
btw what was the best price offered to you??

I am also in the run for the 55 EX710, have been told 3-4 days here in Mumbai. Feature wise it seems a good model except for the 100-200hz thingy. Gurus plz giv some feedback on the same.

@shivkumar... The best price I've gotten so far is 1.5L. A friend of mine knows someone who can get me a deal on this.

@ritesh.. this seems to be the only option after looking at literally EVERYTHING (from the V20 to the Samsung C6900). I really hope there aren't any dmajor deal breakers.

1 the 200hz doesn't make much of a difference subjectively i.e seeing with your eyes, even though the objective data says they have a higher motion resolution,I and many others couldn't make out the difference.

2 It has a SPVA panel, while the older 52" EX700 has a UV2A panel, which has slightly better viewing angles and natively faster response time.
But blacks of the SPVA should be the same.

3 Samsung has the exact same panel as the Sony,it doesn't have any PQ advantage, but it should have more video playback via USB.

4 It doesn't have local dimming.

5 In grey it can only be available upon order, should cost 10 to 20% cheaper.

For anyone looking to buy the EX710, this is my personal experience with it.

Copied from here

Finally got the chance to check out the EX710 today. Unfortuantely, it wasn't an experience that led me to bring it home. I'll go on record and say that the EX710 is more hype than substance.

While I liked the slim profile and the minimalistic design along with the matte finish screen, the quality of the picture definitely leaves more to be desired. I won't say it's bad, but I wouldn't say it's good either. Everything looked quite washed out and colors are far from being vibrant. I saw the display at a Sony Center and believe it or not, the lesser models looked much better. I checked and double checked the settings and they were all on the exact same settings with the ambient sensor off.

I definitely wouldn't recommend this model, not for the premium price they are charging for it. You can easily make do with any of the other models (lower end models), unless of course you are looking for a 50+ inch tele.

Aside from my brother and I, there were 2 other potential customers who, like me, had their minds made up to buy the EX710, till they actually saw the EX710. Sufficed to say, they left the store quite disappointed as well.

At this point I'm left with just one other option, the Samsung 55C6900. It's an impressive display with only one problem... a big, big price tag.

For me, it's either that, or wait till CES 2011.

(forget for our verbal dual in past)

I have a crooked view of situation ( I really do not know what other equipment you have)

1.5 lack is big amount (least very very big fotr me this moment)

so why not buy a 50 Ich Plasma , a good projector ( preferred 1080 P ) and Screen

I think it can be fitted in 1.5 L

This is just my viewpoint ..or why not checking bigger plasmas?

Ok let me put them down point wise

1) Plasma: The best Plasma you can get is the Panasonic and their biggest size in India is 50" and that's for both models, the V20 and the VT25. I ruled out the V20 because of the Infinite Black (not PRO) panel being sold here in India as opposed to the PRO panel in the UK. Secondly, I'm not big on 3D so no point in spending another 65k for the VT20 even though it has the Infinite Black PRO panel.

2) Projector: Never really thought of that as an option. The TV is for my living room. I can't have a projector sticking out of the roof. That would just ruin the look of the living room.

3) Other Plasma's: After Dushie got the 58" Samsung, I was excited about it and almost got that too, but I think at the end of the day, I'm not as much of a purist videophile as I initially thought. I felt the TV was really dull and just lack luster. Real life colors are just boring and to see them again on a big 50"+ screen doesn't excite me. I love the bright colors and the vividness of the LED-LCD models so after I ruled out the Panasonic there was no other way to go than with an LED-LCD TV.

They must've added it recently I guess. I'm sure the price on that will be upwards of 3L!

EDIT: Just found out... the MRP on the Panasonic 65VT20 is 3,79,000.00

Hi Satan

i want to know what do you think about 40 Ex500 what is ur opinion as i think i am going to buy it, so i need ur unbiased opinion as i may change my mind if it was disappoiniting

My honest opinion is Wait till 2011.

From the current 2D LED-LCD lineup of 2010, the only series I would recommend is the Samsung C6900. As far as I can see there are only 3 problems with this series

1) Highly Glossy Screen (not a big deal for most people unless you are in a really bright room with no way to control the light)
2) Price
3) Samsung "Panel Lottery"

If adder or someone else here can throw some light on how to identify which panel you are getting and which among them would be best, it would be great.

EDIT: How to find the right panel with Samsung?

thanks Satan
to wait for 2011 models these models won't be available at our market till june or july. so it is long time
and another point what the new models will offer more better than the available models.
LED now is very expensive and its pic is similar to the LCD or slightly betterwith some problems as bleeding/flashlighting.....etc
and all 100 hz LCD are mainting their high price so what do you think 2011 will offer more than the current models?
