I have not used any of these, but if you are using the hdmi out then there won't be any difference in audio quality.

If I may interject, even am looking for a good BD player with excellent 'analog' audio quality. Pl share your feedback on the analog audio output quality of these players when used as a 'transport'

thanks in advance,

The Pioneer 450 does not have analog out. only twin HDMI.

points

1.S380 and DMP BDT 320 have analog out, so one can use their onboard DAC
2.BDP 450 doesn't have any analog out, I don't know it contains a DAC, I don't know whats the use of dual HDMI ports and no analog out, this is a deal breaker for me

the biggest disadvantage with a BDP being a transport is lack of display, a digital media transport without display will not work out as it becomes extremely inconvenient. To me any smartphone is a much better option for transport than a BDP

Dual HDMI is useful if you have two displays like a TV and a PJ. It is also useful for non 3d passthrough hdmi avr users. They can connect one of the output to TV for 3D and the other to the avr for audio. I don't care much about analog audio out because in most case we will use the hdmi or spdif out for audio.

Also one more quite often use case is:
Hdmi out 1 to tv
Hdmi 2 out to av receiver for sound.
I have experienced that pass through video via avrs are altering/degrading PQ.

1. I think most of us want PJ to connect to HD DTH and a BDP, in that case BDP to PJ direct connection is not possible, AVR comes in or another set of 20-30 HDMI cable from monoprice!!!!
2. In very few set-ups TV and PJ is in the same wall because of rearrangement hassle. Moreover seating arrangement in a PJ room is too long for a HDTV.
3. How about this - you provide the luxury of audio, video HDMI separate while there is no scope for a simple personal headphone. I may be wrong but to me a user should not be deprived of a still versatile simple stereo audio output.
4. Almost every BDP has a standard DAC, does 450 has? if no why when BDPs at half of its price gives almost same PQ and SQ? if yes then how to use it?

I am connecting my HTPC the same way. GPU DVI out is connected to TV using HDMI adapter and HDMI out to AVR for audio. The display is cloned, so that both the avr and tv will display the same screen.

Pioneer and pana are both robust in sound whether bitstreamed to the avr or decoding on board.
Sony is thin on sound.

All of the above bluray players have very basic DAC + analog audio stage. It's better to bitstream and connect to an AVR. Almost everyone I know does not use the analog outputs of the bluray player. Either those are connected to TV using HDMI or to AVR.

Pioneer understood that and removed the option and saved may be ~10 USD on cost.
