Sony DAV-DZ510 HTS Optical input problem

I recently purchased Sony DAV-DZ510 Home Theater System. I connected the receivers digital ''optical IN'' to my computers digital ''optical OUT'' but there is no sound whatsoever. I am using Windows seVen x64, my motherboard is ASUS M4A78T-E. my computer has detected the ''digital SP/DIF OUT'' but why isn't there sound. Secondly my computer also has an HDMI port. If I connect my Sony DAV-DZ510 Home Theater System to my computer through HDMI can I watch movies on my LCD. Please help me, guide me. Thanks

I have same HTiB, The optical from Xtreamer works flawlessly. Please check Cable. Also Set 510 to TV/Video in other mode there will be no sound

Also there is no HDMI in for 510. You will have to take HDMI out from PC to LCD.

Something like this

PC - > Optical -> Sony HTIB
PC-> HDMI -> LCD.

The ''optical out'' from my pc goes to the ''optical in'' of the home theatre. but there is no sound. the cable I think is working for when I plug one end in the home theatre at the other end i see a red light at the tip. besides what mode should the home theatre be in if i want to play the sound through my pc.

in my 510 there is no mode Home theater.
I select TV/Video and it works fine.
You are right the red light indicates that cable is not faulty.

Try the mode and lets see if it works.

Press function till it shows TV/Video.

1 more thing if CO-axial is connected to Some source then it has priority over optical. Disconnect he coaxial or switch off the source of coaxial.

well i tried every do and don't, but no sound coming from the optical out. atlast i got it connected through stero to rc cable. guess thats my best bet. btw how di u get it working.

Dude, change the Default Audio device in your PC as SPDIF. (Control panel -> sound)

there's 1 thing i have noticed on the hts, the optical input says TV. so does it mean it can be connected to a TV and not a pc?
