Sony HT-DH550

Thanks for reply..I have 42" Panasonic tv in 11x15 ft room......my requirements are 80% movies 20% music. I watch mostly downloded movies in 720p resolution and movies on DishTV HD.
 
Have you listened to this system anywhere ? From the picture, the subwoofer looks tiny. Check if it is active or passive. For 55K you can get other brands like Yamaha, Denon and Pioneer which are well known in Home theatre circles. Sony is a TV brand IMHO. They are not good in Audio. More of general consumer electronics.
 
It has an active 25 cm subwoofer as compare to 16 cm subwoofer of yamaha 299/2910....I'm not a big fan of Sony but I live in a small town of Uttarakhand where I can't find sellers and service providers for yamaha onkyo pioneer denon etc.

Hi Anand,

While going for Yamaha, Onkyo, etc. has its set of advantages if there is no service in your town there is no point going for them. Do keep in mind the future. In case you move out to a bigger city it might rankle you a bit then. Because while the popular brands are good they are behind when it comes to Yamahas of this category.

Any how, if you are intent on buying a HT for mostly movies why not consider other options from Sony? You can get other HTs for much lesser price. Why did you zone on to this particular HT?
For example: STR-K55SW : Home Theatre Component System : Home Theatre System : Sony India costs 55k.
BDV-E4100 : Blu-ray Home Theatre Systems : Home Theatre System : Sony India costs just 30k
BDV-N9100W : Blu-ray Home Theatre Systems : Home Theatre System : Sony India costs 55k but looks good.

Why only Sony HH550?
 
Hi Friends,

I m from Surat, Gujarat.
I m planing to buy new HT with in few week.
I also confuse about yamaha 2910 or with this new sony ht-dh 550.
I can not find any service center in my city from yamaha, onkyo, pioneer and denon.
But sony is well established service network and I see some good review about this perticular Sony AVR on net which is as good as yamaha, denon, pioneer and onkyo.
I will going to audition this one in this weekend.

If any one get audition of this sony ht please provide review for it.
 
I wish to buy this particular model because it's a dedicated AV receiver... I can upgrade speakers later in future..I've auditioned all other HTiBs from sony samsung LG panasonic..they just increase TV volume...sometimes too loud and uncomfortable to ears..
 
Even if there is no service in your area, I will advise buying HTiB from the likes of Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, etc. I purchased my first AVR (Onkyo TX-DS747) in 1998 when Onkyo had just a token presence in India. I have since then replaced it with Denon 1910 but my old AVR is still very much in working order.

Generally nothing happens as long as power supply is stable. If power fluctuates, use a proper wattage stabilizer.

Where are you getting the Sony HT-DH550 for 29K? I see it in ebay.in but it has only the speaker not with AVR.
