Hi,

I am moving back to India and have the sony KDL-52XBR9 52" lcd tv. (It is NTSC)

If I plan to use component out with a sattelite box/dvd player. I dont care about broadcast.

Does the PAL/NTSC matter. If not, what would a comparable tv cost in India.

It matters. Your TV will not work.

I went through the same issue when I returned from the US.
If you already own the TV, the best solution is to buy a NTSC to PAL converter. Eg. Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Atlona Multi-system Pal/ntsc Video Converter

I works (I have one), but you wont be too happy with the picture quality.

My suggestion :
- Sell the TV in the US and buy a new one in India, or
- Use the TV in India only to watch DVDs

vip,

Which tv you buy is a personal decision.

I prefer Plasma over LCD. I have bought a Samsung 50 inch 720p plasma (PS50B450), for Rs 65K, and am very happy with it. I believe it can now be purchased for below Rs 60K.

The 720p TVs are generally better at handling SD content, than the 1080p. TV broadcasts here, even over DTH, are SD. There is virtually no high-def programming available.

As I said, its your choice. If you prefer LCD TVs, others on this board can guide you.
