Hi ,

I want to buy a 3D LED tv (46") this diwali .

I have shortlisted Sony NX720 / Sony HX925 or Samsung D7000 .

Which is the best tv in every aspect i.e HD viewing / 3D performance and more specifically SD viewing .?

Especially i wanna know which is the best for SD viewing via DTH ( i.e big tv , tata sky , airtel etc .) bcoz in india HD nd 3D content wont be available in mass until 2-3 years from now .

So which one is the best in terms of SD ( DTH ) performance .?

I was a bit inclined to samsung especially bcoz of its looks and its ability to play mkv video files through USB which Sony cant .

Plz Advice ......

This isn't even a fair comparison. Two EDGE LED sets being compared with a Local Dimming FULL LED TV.

Get the HX925, no second thoughts. X Reality PRO works well for SD as well. With the right setting SD will look decent on the set, not as good as Panasonic Plasmas but still not that bad.

What is the basic difference between a local dimming LED & an edge LED , and which is better .??

Some Reviews I've read state that Samsung D7000 is better than HX925 overall ...

So which one to choose .??

Also D7000 is a Smart TV while HX925 does not have as many features as the D7000 ...

What to do .??

There is night and day difference between Local Dimming and EDGE LED. In Local dimming sets there are multiple zones of LED clusters which are used for the backlighting whereas in EDGE LED there only few LED clusters at either top or bottom or left and right.
As a result Local Dimming Tvs can reproduce deep blacks and have very good screen uniformity and no light leakage as in EDGE LED models.

Also local dimming is much more expensive to implement than EDGE LED.

Local dimming sets have much better PQ than EDGE LED and HX925 is the cream of the crop Local Dimming TV. It will blow away any other TV in terms of PQ, EDGE LED is just not in the same league.

Also HX925 has all the Internet features that you get in D7000. Additionally you get Skype functionality as well.

No mkv support in any Sony Bravia sorry. But then any Bluray player will play those just fine for you. Don't bother too much about TV video playback.

Okay , and do the Bravia play avi ( divx & xvid ) via USB .??
And skype is also available on Samsung .

Also is there some form of wifi streaming possible for other formats like mkv.??

Do you own a VAIO/Sony Bluray/Home theater/Tablet/Xperia phone ? If yes then its possible easily.

Even non branded DLNA compatible devices can be used to stream videos to the TV over WIFI.

And nope no xvid/divx file support. Only basic standard video formats like wmv,mp4 are supported

THe samsung is the best 3D LED available today, according to 2 most credible review sites.
quality very near plasma with very low cross talk.
:D

I just found out that HX925 is cheaper than D7000 on letsbuy .

Why is Sony so far behind in providing features such as mkv/avi format playback via USB when Samsung and for that matter all the other brands such as panasonic and LG have been providing it for over an year now .??

And which is better in after sales support & FW updates, Sony or Samsung .??

Well if you have big bucks to spend for absolute PQ,you better be prepared to buy a dedicated media player, since you can always buy a media player but a tv primary objective is good PQ.

That depends on the settings and your preference. It has the superior processing engine for SD though.

And if mkv support and stuff is that important to you, then go ahead with D7000. The reason I am saying this is it seems PQ is not that important to you but features. In that case I will gladly suggest Samdung D7000. Its a pretty good TV as far as EDGE LEDs go.

And btw referring to your OP, HD content as well 3D Blurays are easily available in India. There are hundreds of Blurays available for sale, not just movies but even TV shows, bollywood movies and what not. :)
And there is always the Internet ;)
