Hello All,

Thanks for this wonderful forum and the members who actually make it worth the time

Well, i have seen all the threads here, spent time reading it.
Finally, i have come to my choice of W950A, 46 inch TV.

The reason is:

1. I am a big fan of Sony, and always wanted to buy Sony TV.
2. My budget is 1.25 Lakhs and this seems to fit the bill, with an extra 5K
3. Considering the life being 5 years, this is a big investment in itself and has to be worth it.

I have taken the demo and visited Sony world Bangalore. The price quoted to me 1,29,900/- Nothing comes free, apart from installation and demo at home :)

They are offering an extended 2 year warranty for 5K.

Now my questions are:
1. Is my choice right? Considering my usage of the TV to watch movies (downloaded from torrents (USB), occasional DVD/Blueray purchase), Dish (Videocon) and PS3.
2. The price i am getting is correct only, right?
3. Should i go ahead and take an extended warranty?
4. While installation, should i be checking something else apart from usage hours (which i found in the forum and saved)
5. Is this worth an investment for next 5 years?

I will buy this week end, so based on the replies here, i would go with no doubts in mind to purchase.

Thanks
Arun

1. Oh it is the best LED I have ever seen. The colours are really vibrant.
2. I think you can negotiate for about 5% from that price, say around 122K. Try a multi brand retail outlet.
3. I think yes. It will give peace of mind for 2 more years. This TVs many times need Panel replacement which is very costly.
4. Look for more details on how to check usage hours.
5. ha ha .. I really liked it. It is not an investment as it is depreciating asset. Yes it is an investment from lifestyle point of view. Considering that it is beautiful looking TV apart from the additional snob value of owning a SONY, you will be delighted for a long time to come.

I have this 46W950. And Manz has answered most of your questions.
The extended color gamut of w950 really works and I am seeing colours never seen on a TV. The pic quality is brilliant and sound is also effective.
Always go for 2 year ext. warranty.

i also have 46 inchh w950a only drawback i can think of poor veiwing angels rest is all excellent try to get a better discount i got it for 1.25 lacs just days after release

Thanks all for the response.

@shuv
This is not in technical terms, what i meant is after 5 years, most likely we will tend to buy a new one, due to technology enhancements and our purchasing power (hoping it will improve).

@shainz

Did you picked it from sony world or multi brand retail. If you are from Bangalore, could you suggest please.

Visited few stores, they dont have W950. Any clues.
Sony guys are not coming down at all, insisting on 1.3 only

Infibeam offers at 1.23, but am finicky to buy online (considering the amount)

2. The pricing at Sonyworld's remain the same across these outlets because Sony ensures it stays that way. You might have some luck at a multi-brand store, but a bit more difficult to ensure they don't palm off a used set on you. Sonyworld pricing may/may not come down a bit for the festival season just up ahead or instead you might get a few freebies, interesting financing offers etc. at that time. If you can wait, perhaps you should.

3. Yes, but you don't have to purchase the extended warranty at the time of purchase of the TV. It can be purchased anytime before the expiry of the standard warranty.

point2: what sony guys says is that, the next offer will be for diwali, and might be bundling some thing with the TV, but the cost wont go down.

point3: they also told that extended warranty can be purchased with in an year. I might be doing that only.

Hi,
W950 is the best LED in town. Choose extended warranty as panels are prone to defects very often now-a-days.
I also agree with the statement '5 years life'. A 7k crt is still much more reliable than a 70k panel;-)

dumparun - shainz would have got it from srinagar.
BTW, i checked and couple of multi-brand do not give any discounts on Sony models. I tried my self earlier. Probably now its Sony's policy. Not sure if its in bangalore or everywhere!
Ok. I have this: I talked to my friend (in one of the multi-brand showrooms) and he may agree to give you some lucky draw coupons. But no discounts. If you are ready to buy, PM me. W950A is in stock. You can get extended warranty if you want.

Got it from the dealer itself , was able to get that discount as i have known him for 10 odd years and bought plenty of stuff from him in the past

@shainz &@sgmane

I visited Sony World again yesterday night. Wanted to have a demo in the night, with very dim lights as well. It was good, i liked the PQ.
Also tried normal transmission, to simulated 3D.
Checked the viewing angle for 3D and HD, it was pretty nice to somewhere around 150-16 degree. May not be 178 as they claim. But i was looking at it from the way i am actually going to watch it, which is around 40 degrees. I think, its good ...

Regarding the price, i talked to the manager there, told him that i will be picking it up this week end and its confirmed. discussed the price, with a tone of a person determined to buy. He offered me 1.25, saying that i should not be showing the bill elsewhere and so on :D

I think, its a good deal. I will pick it up tomorrow.

He told they have a strict policy of demo pieces, which they need to send it back to HQ or else get the price tagged and sell once hte model is discontinued, by informing customer.
So i am almost sure, i will receive a fresh piece :)

Thanks for all the comments.

Yes. They try their luck because they know most people won't be able to distinguish between a fresh piece and a display one. Plus the box repacking is done so beautifully, it will seem that the box was never opened before at all.

same thing happened with me too, but thanks to the numerous tips provided by the Forum Members I was able to identify it and get a replacement.:)

Hello All,

I purchased the TV on Friday, got it mounted as well as demo happened on the same day. 1.25 is what i paid.

Need to say awesome TV, awesome quality :)

I checked the usage hours
it was all 00000000000 - 0000000000009 - 000000000000

So i think, mine is a fresh piece :)

Thats it, thanks all for helping me decide
