speaker audition - hyderabad

thanks for the insightful comments venkat. I will start auditioning different speakers over the next few weeks. I have one question on using my existing speakers for the interim. The 2 front speakers from my panasonic htib, have 2 separate input wires (2 + 2 wires in total). These are hard wired (i.e. there is no connector available at the speaker end). one set for low impedance 6 ohm and the other for high impedance, 12 ohm. All the others have single connections with 8ohm impedence. My panasonic has 2 separate outputs for the 2 fronts (i.e 4 spring clips for the 2 fronts) and single outputs for each of the other speakers
How do I connect these front speakers to my new 863?

Frankly I am stumped.

I would connect the 6 Ohms cable to the Front L&R, and the 12 Ohms cable to the Rear L&R, and bi-amp the speakers. I am assuming this is what Panasonic has designed the speakers for. The 6 Ohms must be driving the mid range and woofers inside, while the 12 ohms must be driving the tweeters.

But please do NOT do this experiment unless you have some confirmation from a few other members. PM Mars and see what he says.

Another way, of course, is to open the speakers and rewire them inside, and add a set of binding posts outside. I am not sure you want to do this. This will become a little tricky if there is no crossover inside, and you have to start looking for crossovers in the market.

Can you see if you can locate some technical specs of the speakers and the HTIB and give us the link?

Cheers

thanks venkat. Let me ping Mars and see if he has any thoughts.
Also, I had called Sound and Vision and they said that they have Mission M66i available. I am not sure how these speakers are or how much they cost. Any ideas anyone?

Hi Guys,

I am setting up a yamaha rx-v863. I want to set this up in a 12*12 room and will use it mostly for movies (75% movies and 25% music) and also for regular TV viewing. I am looking for a good set of speakers and would like to make them future proof. I have some speakers from my panasonic mini hifi/htib which i hope to re-use. My initial budget is 30-40K and my preference is to go with Floorstanders and am planning a modular build to keep myself in budget. My plan is to get the 2 fronts and the center first and add the SW and surrounds later (i hope to use my existing panasonic surround speakers for the interim). I plan to upgrade to 5.1 over the next 3-4 months and to 7.1 over the next year or when bluerays pick up in India. Experts please advice..

Where can I find dealers for speakers in hyderabad? I visited pro-Fx in somajiguda but they only had polk and KEF and their set ups only consist of Denon receivers. I would like to audition other brands like wharfedales or missions with yamaha receivers. Any suggestions?

Hi Deride,
My requirement is similar to yours. I am going to get 863 from US. Can you please let me know, what set of speakers you bought finally.
If possible please give your Feedback/inputs on Yammy 863.

The Best Av reciever Is Denon It has got 5 star rating in whts HIFI magzine it has got the comparision between all brands Avreciever and finally Denon stood No1 ,The main reason is that it operates at 8 Ohms rest at 6 Ohms.Where 8 Ohms is descent listening for Home Purpose & other imp factor is it has got Upconversion Facility to 1080p.
Coming to Speakers The best speakers that i found in hyderabad in comparision after having experiences in all demo rooms in Hyderabad went for KEF latest C series.and brought it from PROFX store Hyd,since they hve got a excellent service backup & 3 demorooms as per our budget. This is the only diff where PROFX tops in Hyd when compared to others.
I've got good experience & knowledge about sound, acoustic ,video from them the've got experienced installation people who r working since 10 years.I hope your Hunt for speakers would end after listening to kef ,hope ur dreams come true.

whatever rating the Denon gets in reviews has got nothing to do with 8ohm
operations. All AVRs which are reviewed are capable of handling 8ohm speakers and that in itself is nothing extraordinary.

Also just having 3 demo rooms for different budgets does not make ProFX the best for AV in India. In fact, I have found that most persons at ProFX are salesmen category with no real interest in AV. There many dealers out there with a keen interest in AV, who give good sound advice.

However, Denon's current AVRs are very good and also the seakers from KEF iQ series. C series of KEF I cannot comment on.
