Noted, will keep that in mind.Stop trying to deduce the sound from YT videos as that's going to lead you completely astray.

Haha...thanksManohar, which speakers are these? Am sure you must have gotten something nice. Couple of decades ago I had a 2.1 active speaker combo for my desktop from an Indian brand whose name started with A (I don’t recollect it now) and I was so happy with them. Somehow got lost during transit. Currently I use some BT speakers, but can try a 2.1 config again if there’s something good at a reasonable cost (say under Rs 20k). The source would be my MacBook Pro 16” which itself has good sounding speakers, but with limited soundstage, esp as they are upward firing.
@DB1989 has given good suggestions as also the others. There’s no better/worse sound as such in any given price range, so it’s about one’s preferences. And auditioning or YT videos are teen only two options I can think of to do that. QAcoustics can be a good option if one is going blind… these are popular and difficult to go hugely wrong with.
I am more of a melody & acoustic music person, so my Castle Knight 2’s have kept me happy for over 8 years now. As DB said about CK5, even the CK2 dig low (I record sizeable db at even 30 Hz on the Decibel app) and are good choice for large room (mine is 300 sq ft). But these aren’t for fast, electronic music.. and also very sensitive to room placement (that’s a common challenge with speakers that go deep).
I agree that bookshelf with good stand comes almost to the price of an equivalent floorstander. The choice depends on whether one wants to feel the bass in one’s body… because there’s also the downside of disturbing the neighbours and between a comparable floorstander (typically 3 way) and standmount (typically 2 way), the latter images better.
True, happiness is subjective. I have seen my father in law being ecstatic listening to mp3 versions of old Hindi films on his old Nokia phone (without touch screen). I don’t find such happiness even with KEFs/ Rotel/ Wharfedales and what notHaha...thanks
Actually I was too shy to even bother with another desk setup after the LS50 experiment went downhill. Iam presently traveling, and found some "insignia" branded 2.1 pc speakers lying around at my work place, and plugged them into my laptop. Way better than the crappy in-built speakers. I dont think I need anything better than this for my desk atleast, so Iam done searching![]()
Comparison is the source of unhappiness. Don’t compare your result with others’ and you can stay happy.True, happiness is subjective. @arunkvivek I am complete noob in hi-fi, first time i even heard of Frugal Horns. I can't do carpentry but can get a friendly carpenter to work. Current obligations don't leave me much spare time to delve in Diy's. Someday when i'll have spare time to indulge in hobbby, will certainly get in touch with you to learn the skill. Thank You very much for intriguing me into it.@Knightrider - Have you heard of Frugal horns? They are popular in DIYaudio forum and easy to build (only woodwork and stuffing polyfill). They are proven speakers and work really well when you can place them close to rear walls. They should fit right in your budget or slightly more as drivers are bit expensive) if you can either do the carpentry. I have built them recently to test my ability before I could scale up to bigger version FHXL. They are joy to listen to. There have been issues in the past where speakers got damaged in transit resulting in dispute between parties. You need to ensure the speakers are packed in crate with adequate foamboards and thermocol padding. Crating services are available in most cities. Pay them for professional service to ensure a peaceful transit. But some costly components (berylium tweeters) give you nightmares even if the packing is bullet-proof. I have hand carried speakers by train in 1AC to avoid risks associated with road transportation. if you have finalized some used ones, please pay a visit to the FM's place. Audition and pack it to your satisfaction, carry them on flight or train.Need FMs regarding Shipping of (pre owned) speakers.
Looking into few pre owned stand mounts and floor standing speakers in classified section.
Shipping cost comes around 3500-4000 for floor standers, 1800-2000 for stand mounts. (shiprocket/delhivery) for approx 1800kms.
Query :-
How to ensure speakers don't get damaged in transit?
Which courier service to opt for?
Standard packaging that speakers comes in is good enough for shipping or needs something else for safety?
How to proceed with transaction?
Any other advise/ suggestion from FMs who have gone through the process as shipper/ receiver is very much appreciated.
Please advise.
Regards.
That makes buying pre owned gear risky for me, due to my location being far away from any metro city, where most of the gear is available to be bought. And makes visiting to personally pick up, costly affair and hence negates the cost savings of pre owned over new gear from dealer with risk of damaged goods being taken over by the dealer, in case it happens. There have been issues in the past where speakers got damaged in transit resulting in dispute between parties.
Wooden crating hassle + cost, added weight freight cost would negate most of the savings of preowned due to distance 18000km approx for both the options I'm looking intoCrating services are available in most cities. Pay them for professional service to ensure a peaceful transit.
Looks like I have scarred your mind with shipping trauma. Guess I'll have to rethink about buying pre owned due to risk of shipping damage and added hassles.
I am more inclined towards that only, looks well kept, reasonably discounted price as compared to New listing prices. Its been listed by FM and he appears to be passionate about gear so a certain trust level is already there.Dali Oberon

Oh alright. That's great. Have you shortlisted any speakers?@MaSh Dropped the idea of nearfield. Going for standmounts/ floorstanders for approx 210sqft room. Can manage 9-10 feet listening distance
@MaSh Had shortlisted these Stand mounts on basis of priced around my initial budget of around 30k ₹.Have you shortlisted any speakers?
Have been using actives for a long time, want to move to passives now.Slightly over 30k but being active you don't need an amplifier with these. And they sound good. I think you can even add a sub to this system.
