hi
My Onkyo 609 is on the way
what speakers would go best with it

i Need floorstanders
even though the 609 has 7.2 .initially im only going with a 5.1 set up ,will add more surrounds later
I have auditioned Jamo S 606 ,wharfedale obsidian ,wharfedale 9.5 and 10 series so far
and also Tannoy Arena (not FS)

the last 3 had a Velodyne sub in the setup
for music i liked the Obsidian and the 9.5
for movies i liked the Obsidian and i was completely blown away by the crispness of the vocals & surrounds when i heard the Tannoys
literally got goosebumps when i was watching Avatar and all those sounds kept popping out in the forest -wharfedales didnt bring that out so much,in fact the 9.5 had very low vocals

Hence im a bit stuck now as Tannoys are not floorstanders and they 're double the cost of the Obsidian package
you think Polk, def tech etc should also be auditioned or any others ?
Speakers +sub im looking at only around 60 K as i have allocated a major portion of the budget to a 55 "LEd
yes ,you can tell my preference is largely movies & gaming :licklips:

Experts anyone ?
should i assume that speakers that match well with 608 will go well with this also ?

thanks for any help
Need it a bit urgently as im finalising as soon as the Tv is in

if youre going for a 5.1 setup you dont require floorstanders. floorstanders normally come with additional bass over bookshelves and since you will have a sub you would not require this. what is your budget

yep im aware but i v tested above setups by switching sub off and i dint like it one bit .
I like some deep thumps i guess ;-)
about 60 k

Thursday is again audition time :licklips:, any suggestions welcome people .

hi franco can you add the prices of the above mentioned speaker packages

thanks

Polk RTI , Paradigm Titans, PSB image , KefQ and EPOS ... Try them with your 609...

Start building the setup step by step . Fronts and center first and later sub and surrounds.

Last year I auditioned Onkyo TX-SR577 + SKS-HT728 I feel it sounds better than Denon AVR-2311 + Q Acoustics 2000 Series Cinema Package while playing music but the players used to play the audio cd is different onkyo setup they were used some onkyo dvd player I don't know the model while in denon setup they were used dune bluray player. But I could not audition mkv(movie) clippings with onkyo setup because onkyo dvd player could not play mkv files while Dennn setup sounds good with mkv clippings. So if it is possible audition Onkyo SR 609 + SKS-HT728 combo for music and movie.

One of our member(rahuljonline) is using this speaker package.Based on his post he bought SKS-HT728 around Rs.25000.

Another choice but it may be around Rs.50000 I read recently in magazine is Tannoy HTS101

Thanks Guys
@HT user u mean the A7's right ?the 5.1 package should be a lac + right?
@kittu i do intend to audition the 1st 2 u said ,probably today .when u say try ,i will need to take in the amp to test ?as none of the have the 609 yet .or should i just test it with a 608 ,as it was a upgrade?
also since i love watching blurays with good surround ,il run out 2 weeks later and buy the surrounds etc if i just buy fronts & center now
dilemna:sad:
@raju il check them out .if they're half as good as the Arenas they'll be awesome
dunno how much i l get to audition tomorrow as also picking up the TV

If you have a good SW, A5 will do.
RTi A5
CSi A6
FXI A6

If you want to use the doublebass function (preferably with a external amp) go for A7
(A7 is 300W).

If you can spend, you may go for SVS, HSU subwoofers instead of Polk SW

LAst call .
i auditioned the jamo S606 ,wharfedale diamond 10.
also the Polk RT1 A7,paradigm, klipsch & mordaunt short
Though they were all brilliant ,for my listening tastes ,the S606 & the PolK RTi A7 came out best .
but the A7's are coming out at double the price of the RTi
so i guess the final one will be Jamo
im going with a 250 sub tho instead of the 210
any thoughts ?

do a repeated audition pal, I think A7s or A5s better than S606. Have you tried KEF IQ 50 series?

250 Sub also may not be a good choice. It won't match with A7 or 606 properly.

Go for 10" or 12" which can go up to 20Hz or 18Hz comfortably.
SVS, HSU Research, Elemental Designs etc can be considered.

hmm i didnt get to see A5's anywhere only A7's
what shd be the price range for a 5 piece set in A5's
again i didnt see the Kefs anywhere

the sub 250 wont match ?
its Jamos' recommmended match in their HCS 6 combo n all shops wr also pairing it
any place where i can find these subs you mentioned in Mumbai
im actually ok to buy the sub a little later once i install the 5 piece set at home and then checked what sub i need based on sound at home as its very different to what you hear in Shop

Did one more audition with same set of speakers & also Obsidian this time doing switchovers in the middle of track on in between action scenes
The wharfedales though sounding warm & mellow during music did lose out a bit on vocals during movies compared to the Jamo S 606 and sounded muted .maybe just my opinion but thats what it came to

I have paired my 609 with Paradigm. I had auditioned Jamo but thought the FS were an overkill for my current rented apartment. Also, to my untrained ears, the only difference was with music that too without the sub in the Paradigms.

So i settled with the Paradigms for now. I will add FS when I move to my own apartment and then use the Paradigm's for 7.1 setup.

I'm still struggling to complete the setup for my 609+Paradigms - not exactly feeling the 60k invested in the combo yet.

Will post a review when I'm sure I'm getting the best out of both.
