I got a LG 42" LW5700 LED TV recently and would like to make it safe from power fluctuations. I have a microtek inverter (non sinewave) already running.

What is recommended? A stabilizer or a 600 VA UPS? Will a stabilizer work with an inverter already running?

Looking forward to your valuable suggestions.

If you have an inverter you would not be needing the stabilizer. In case you want to be doubly sure you can use a power surge to connect the TV from your UPS mains.

But since the inverter is not sinewave, I am worried it might fry the TV or damage the sensitive electronics of the LED TV. I have encountered this twice with my CRT before this and that's the reason I don't want the inverter power to enter the TV on any cost.

I learnt my lesson hard way. my LCD's invertor board and the main board after some months, fell victims to the fluctuations. I have bought a Vgaurd digi100 now.. doesn't cost much (under 3k) for the peace of mind.

I am using an ordinary 600VA UPS to power my LCD TV. You can buy a Vgurad digi series stabilizer for your use. A better option will be an online sinewave UPS but these are very expensive.

Will the Stabilizer work properly with the inverter also running in the same line? I know its a dumb question but I am a bit confused.

Hi Jain,

It should be ok. However the stabilizer won't protect against surges I think. Neither will the inverter since it only kicks in when power fails. So essentially you have no surge protection. Also isn't there a delay while the inverter kicks in? A good surge protector is essential.

So should I got with a normal 600 VA APC UPS as I believe it has a surge protector built in?

If it has surge protection it will help. Do figure out the watt or load of your components to see if the kva is enough. As far as I know most electronic components like to see a sine wave while a typical computer 600 va ups puts out a square wave. Do check this out.

What about voltage cutoff systems which are usually used for A/Cs? Can these be used for the TV/HT system? These don't stabilize the output, but simply cut-off power beyond a range (usually 170V-255V).

^^. Usually stabilizers come with Hi-Low cutoff and a UPS will switch over to battery mode. It is better to have a stabilizer rather than normal cut offs.
