Hello FMs,
Just recently I purchased the Yamaha BD-A1040 solely because it can play CDs (which PS4 cannot) and it has analog out which I can feed to my Yamaha A-S801 integrated amp. Currently my PS4 is connected to my int amp via an optical cable.
I am yet to connect my BDP which I would be doing over the weekend. So I have not yet compared the Picture quality or the sound quality.

I had read good reviews about the Yamaha BD-A1040 and also I got a good deal on the new one.

But somehow after this recent purchase, I am not able to justify my decision whether I should have gone for this or just gone ahead and bought a CD player. The CD player again would have costed me the same or even a little more.
Also whether this BDP is better than PS4 for what it does? Welcome your comments.

Hi,

As per audioholics, it's a decent player which can play all sorts of formats and discs..

To enjoy cds..use the analog connections.

To enjoy movies and other digital formats..use hdmi...

If you just want to play discs, its better to stick to Yamaha. It will definitely save power and elongate the lifespan of the play station.

If your primary reason for getting the BDP was to play Audio CDs, you should have bought a CD player. Used ones are available aplenty and would have taken your Audio CD experience to a whole new level.

However, if you want to give your PS4 a rest from movie duty, then of course your current arrangement is more "convenient".
