Stepdowns

Good morning,
I have a 1974/76 Marantz 2325 Amp that was fully serviced 6 years ago but has been in hibernation for the last 3 years after I bought a newer stereo system. I have since unwrapped it and set it up in my garage but I think I'm having an issue with the Step Down. I've been reading several forums re: stepdowns but I'm still unsure as to what to get. Also what speakers would be suitable.
