Stepped in to the Vinyl World

I am eventually going to get a nagaoka 500 once I get a better turntable. I have been comparing high end carts but nagaoka always seems to come up too in reviews. I know I am loving my 200 (which I got lucky with as I had ordered a 110 but the seller gave me an unbeatable offer on a 200). Once it broke in the sound has been awesome and also some LPs that used to skip no longer have that issue with the 200.

which turntable you have, I am planning to use with AT LP120

I have an AT-1240 but currently looking at Clearaudio Concept as a huge upgrade and maybe pairing with the Nag 500. If I had known how good the Nag 200 was before trying it out I probably would have gone for a Nag 500 right away. But I will keep the 200 on the AT 1240 and will eventually upgrade to the 500 once I get a new TT. I really want to keep at lest one direct drive turntable to play those records where the pitch of the songs is not correct (some compilations by HMV were sped up so they could fit more songs on to the LP).

I do not understand how turntable makes any difference. LP120 disk speed is commented to accurate.

given on LP120,

- I have removed the internal preamp
- cartridge wires are directly connected to amp.
- did check there are no anti skate issues.
- Did use arm heavy counterweight
- using rubber mat

I do not understand, how much more turntable could improve the sound? Cartridge I think make most of difference to sound, then turntable.

But I may be wrong, what am I missing?

Direct drive has a motor rumble that belt driven decoupled motors do not have (or marginally at best). While direct drive speed is accurate I was referring to records that were produced without accurate speed. So direct drive gives that additional benefit of being able to alter the speed to correct those records where the speed is incorrect.

Got my Nagaoka MP-110 delivered yesterday from Amazon.co.jp in 5 days. Thinking of getting a Headshell separately to mount this Nagaoka instead of changing the stock cartridge from the existing Headshell.

Also pls advise whether I should take the help of a professional to change the cartridge or do it myself as I'm little confused on the term "overhang"

Thanks/Regrds

use a digital caliper to measure it. Alternately, get an overhang gauge from Ebay itself. Digital caliper is good enough honestly. Do it ur self. No one will have the patience to help u like u can help urself. Overhang is specific to the headshell, tonearm and TT. Nothing to do with what cartridge u have. I think. Could be wrong though.

The manual says that

" to achieve the required overhang, mount in such a way that the stylus tip is positioned about 1 ft / 45 mm from the edge of the headshell's mount surface ( the rubber washer ). ( The overhang for this player should be 0.75 ft / 19 mm)".

Now my confusion is what is that they say as 45 mm and 19 mm for this player.

Finally ,I changed the stock cartridge with the new nagaoka mp110 myself. Will wait for break in period of initial 30 hrs. And I'm satisfied with the alignment I made with the stock headcell

Awesome choice dude. You'll be very happy with Nagaoka. After getting one it sounds better and better each day to me.

Hi,

Started picking up LPs from chennai, Moore market. Even I saw few nos of ' The Burning Train'. I did not picked it since it is not in my most wanted list.

Now advise sought from our FMs on ' How to clean the LPs' thru home made solution and the ways of cleaning. Since most of the LPs are old and used, cleaning before spinning it could be better, I thought.

Pls suggest the ways of cleaning the LPs.

Regard, pakecc

What is the asking price for TBT?

Didn't ask him but the condition of the lp is very good. I will ask him as now I've become his regular customer. Else I can share his number.

By the way, looking for advice from the FMs on the cleaning method of the records. Pls suggest some ways.

Regards
