My 8 years old 26 inch Samsung LCD TV stopped showing any picture today although audio is OK.
I suspect picture tube problem. Although while switching on it shows blue screen with 'no signal'. After that the screen becomes black with no picture.

Any idea, what could be the reason?

Anyway, I started thinking for the worst, that is replacing by a new TV.
My viewing distance is around 8.5 ft and I shall use it only for Tata Sky SD channels.

What should be the best choice? As it is unplanned, my budget is tight.

Pl suggest.

8 years is good service for a TV conisdering that the recent ones fail in 3 years time....Try to log a call with technical support, juz try to gauge the estimated cost...

You consider the 42 inch LG plasma 42PN4500 around 33K which is HD resolution & should do fine for SD channels @ around 9 feet distance...

It is listed in Flipkart with 10% discount price...(Or) you may look around the stores near you to bargain a better price if you are lucky...

Thanks Elangoes for your suggestion.

I feel 32 inch will be a better size for viewing distance of 8.5 ft for SD content.

In 32 inch segment, as I will see the SD channels only, HD Ready TV may be sufficient. Or in coming 3-4 years, will the HD channel option grow and become more economic? Then Full HD TV makes sense.

But whether the picture of SD content in Full HD set would be enjoyable compared to SD content in HD ready set?

In the budget 32 inch segment, LCD or LED - which one is advisable ? Does LCD have edge over LED in longevity?

Hmm...I hav a 46 incher LCD @ a distance of 9 feet...I still feel that i can take 10 more inches in the same distance...

For regular SD channels (576i) & even future HD channels (1080i), HD ready should be more than enough as your TV will scale the SD image less on the HD ready TV compared to the FHD TV....

LED screen of today are nothing but LCD-LED type... All have LCD screens, but the back-light have changed from CCFL to LED..... With LED as backlight, the power consumption has reduced considerably...

I have checked with Samsung technician regarding repair of my Tv. As per him, the video circuit of the main board has developed some problem and the board may have to be replaced and cost would be around 5.7 k. As my TV is already 8 years old, I feel it wouldn't be prudent to spend 5.7k as the TV has already run for 10000 hrs (generally normal life of a LCD panel is 10000 hrs).

Today I have measured the viewing distance using a measuring tape. It is around 10.5 ft. (Not 8.5 ft). But will a 39 inch TV be advisable for pure SD channel viewing? As per table available in the net, 12 ft could have been a better distance for SD viewing in 39 inch TV.

I am in dilemma.

If I go for 39 inch option, HD ready or Full HD - what would make sense?

Ultimately purchased Sharp 32 LE341M at 20.5 k under exchange from a brick & mortar shop.
I liked Samsung 32 inch series 4 also, but gone for sharp due to price factor.

Somehow, the Toshiba cricket series picture was found too vibrant colour to us.

Hi

Congrats on your purchase.

I guess the Sharp is backed by warranty of 3 years and that makes it a wise purchase. Nowadays the TV shelf life is reduced from anything between 3-9 years....technology keeps changing and so does formats.....it is better to spend a nominal amount and use all the required features rather than going for something expensive where you will not even use 50% of the features....

In order to get the best viewing experience, ensure that the cable wires (RCA) or HDMI or Composite video are of good high grade quality. This helps in better video signal transfer and thus better imaging....

Also, you may need to do some color adjustment on the TV depending on where are the light sources in your hall / room....sunlight etc etc.

Whether you guys use costly 3 RCA male to 3 RCA male Audio Video cable for connecting Set Top box and TV?
I have one costing very nominal (unbranded). Any suggestion for upgrading to better one from online shop?

-- I too have similar requirements. So need some help.
My requirements are:
Viewing Distance: 7 to 8 ft max.
Set top box: SD Airtel DTH with RCA output.

Based on it should I go for 32 inch LED TV or 28 inch ?
How is 32p2305 Cricket series Toshiba tv feedback?
The Sales guy at my local store told me it is IPS panel.

Thanks,
Rahul
