Hi friends... I need your expert advise. Yesterday my 10 years old Samsung refrigerator died. The technician says it's compressor is gone and and needs to be replaced at the cost of 5K. I don't see it's worth to spend that much on a 10 year old fridge.

Can you guys suggest a good fridge around 300-350 liters? Cost will be fine at 20-25K, or little more for a really good product. :)

Thanks,
Durgesh

Sharp Refrigerators are the best, but am not sure if they have smaller versions. Pls. check out in their website.

Cheers,
Hari.

why not go again for Samsung direct cooling or frost-free range. check out in your nearest home appliance dealer & pick the latest model in that price bracket.

i am not in consent with your statement above.
Hitachi might be good in huge side by side, sharp may has some good 4-door refrigerator.
But in India, you should always prefer the brand which has good after sales service.

Well i wont not suggest u to buy Sharp and Hitachi they are gud in higher segments but the issues will be after service and the cost involvement , Choose anything in LG, Samsung or Whirlpool or even godrej they all are gud in that price bracket not much of technology has evolved over the time, its still all same, for marketing they do all the stuf of showing of diff things. but end products all work the same...

Hitachi are way too good. Not only in terms of technolgy but compact size and flat designs but little costly. Go check them before any other purchase. my experince had been good so far and they do have a.s.s. office in pune.

Whirlpool seems to be the best bet when it comes to reliability, longevity and they are quiet too. Samsung and LG are a step behind comparitively. As far as service goes the latter two are better.

Thanks guys for such a quick response!
My Samsung fridge served us for a good 10 years without much trouble. I was just wondering whether LG/Samsung/Godrej/Whirlpool are still any good or got degraded with time?
Yeah, Hitachi looks really promising; sure they are costly. I've heard a lot about Hitachi ACs; I guess refrigerators also will be quite good. Definitely I'll check Hitachi before making a final decision.
Thanks again.

edurgesh, I have got a 2 year old Samsung fridge. All is fine, just that the noise is unacceptable for me.

I am using Sharp Refrigerators since past 2 years and both my mother and wife are extremely happy with its performance. No noise, great cooling and practical too. Make an informed decision before you decide. As far as service goes, till now i have not faced any issues with the product. Also i have the direct service from Sharp service franchise at Thane itself whose services i have not used till date as there is no problem with the product.

Cheers,
Hari.

@Hari: Thanks mate... Sharp looks also good. But service is also important for me in Pune (in case required). You are right, I need to check all of those before making a final decision.

Btw guys, any idea about the Panasonic refrigerators?

If you can get a Sharp or a Panasonic in your budget, don't think twice. They won't need after sales service unlike an LG or a Samsung which constantly gives niggles. If you can't find one in your budget, get a Whirlpool.

I normally avoid Chinese/Korean makes like plague. They are great when you buy them but issues start sooner or later. I had to just throw away my old LG microwave since it died twice and the third time, their so called after sales service couldn't fix it.

Far happier with a Sharp now.

@reignofchaos: Thanks for the input buddy... yeah I agree, these Japanese brands are any day better, but they are costlier.

So now my first preference should be Sharp/Hitachi/Panasonic, then Whirlpool/LG/Samsung, etc.

The only thing is that I should be able to find those brands in Pune. I can easily find Panasonic in Brand Shoppe, but not sure about the Sharp or Hitachi. Probably I will start hunting in different stores.

As per my information, Sharp is having their Western Regional office at Pune. Please check their website for more information.

Hi
I have used a Samsung fridge for over 15 yrs with almost no problem, very good after service, now have a Haier side by side 630Lt good VFM

In addition to the above discussion, you must also consider insulation and efficiency of the mechanicals. It does no good to save 5K on the purchase if it costs that much more for electricity to run it each year. Many times a large box is more economical than a small one. Ask to see the energy guide for the models you consider.

Samsung now has units with an internet connection and a touch screen on the door. As you consume the food, it keeps a list and Emails the grocer. The door bell rings and there is a smiling wallah with your order. You can also enter what you'd like to use at the moment, and it will suggest recipes. You can also leave electronic messages on the screen for the family like "The chicken tikka is mine!"

I have used my Hitachi fridge for 1.5 years and am very happy with it. Its got a great design, with its narrow width to fit the tight space in my kitchen. Its three doors with the freezer in the bottom is also very convenient. The auto ice cube feature is also nice esp. during a party.
