Hi members
I'm planning to buy a LED tv or a Plasma TV and below are my expectations kindly suggest me a best model available in market today
1.My room size is 4.8 meters*4.8 meters (L*B)
2.Regular use of TV would be for my Reliance Digital TV(Not HD set top Box as of now, may be in future) & Video chat via Skype
3.Monthly once or twice watching HD,3D movies from external hard drive (No PC at my home )
4.Should support online video streaming such as Flash contents
5.Life of the TV should last at-least 3 years

I can compromise on price if a TV meets all my above expectations.
Also please say me wheather the following TV's are meeting the above expectations
1.SONY KDL40HX850
2.SAMSUNG UA40ES6800

Get 40HX850. You could look at Plasma GT/ST50 but not recommended as you are going to use the TV mainly for DTH viewing.

ES6800 doesn't compare with HX850 in terms of picture quality, you can compare ES6800 with EX650 not HX850.

Panasonic ST50 @96K. Even SD content looks decent and HD content rocks. The PQ is the best I've come across.

if LED HX850.. 46HX850 is available for around 1.1 lacs.. 40HX850 for around 90K.. if Plasma 50ST50, just under a lac.. but it is rarely available.. U can just leave Samy aside.. hardly any competition (but offers lots of bells & whistles)..

46 will be good but even 40 inch will be decent considering your viewing distance. If you are not that particular about PQ then get 46HX750. It's still much better than LG LM7600.

Forget to add one important factor i.e my TV would be placed in a living room which is exactly opposite to a window, main door and room is exposed to sunlight

Dont get the plasma, its nearly as reflective as a mirror, also not to forget IR and burn in factors which are not covered under warranty by any company.

Get the HX750 or HX850.

Hi members
I'm planning to buy a LED TV or a Plasma TV and below are my expectations kindly suggest me a best model available in market today
Based on the requirement that you stated below, here are my specific recommendations ...

1.My room size is 4.8 meters*4.8 meters (L*B)
You have not specified the exact viewing distance. I am assuming this to be 12+ feet since your room size is 4.8m x 4.8m. At this distance a 40"+ size is recommended, the greater the better. Even 55" is good but then it will go over budget. I am assuming that budget is flexible up to 110K if the TV quality is justified. Preliminary choice of model can be narrowed down to:

Sony: 46EX650, 46HX750, 40HX850, 46HX850
Panasonic: 50ST50, 42GT50
Samsung: 46ES6200, 46ES6800, etc.
LG: 46LM6200, 42LM6690, 47LM6700, etc.

You have not mentioned whether your room is brightly lit or whether the light can be controlled via heavy drapes. If the room is brightly lit and ambient light cannot be reduced, rule out plasma. Out of the above you should consider LG if you care about 3D a lot. LG with its passive 3D wins. But LG is not the best when it comes to picture quality. For all serious PQ considerations, it will be a fight between Sony and Panasonic. But your requirements do not justify extreme PQ oriented model. More below.

2.Regular use of TV would be for my Reliance Digital TV(Not HD set top Box as of now, may be in future) & Video chat via Skype
You should switch to HD DTH for best enjoyment of your TV. Whatever TV you will buy, you will need the Skype camera attachment for VC and it (camera) is costly around 6k to 8k. You will have to buy it separately. I will not recommend this but that is your choice.

3.Monthly once or twice watching HD,3D movies from external hard drive (No PC at my home )
Sony is a slight laggard when it comes to media connectivity. It has problems with NTFS and you must format HDD in ext32 FAT. Also there are some issue regarding mkv playback. There is a "how-to" article by lake1988 on this.

4.Should support online video streaming such as Flash contents
YouTube is supported on all models mentioned. Flash is also supported as far as I believe. But I am not into these things and do not care for online video streaming at all. Please verify yourself and with others.

5.Life of the TV should last at-least 3 years
Nothing is guaranteed. TV may last one year or fifteen years.

I can compromise on price if a TV meets all my above expectations.
Also please say me whether the following TV's are meeting the above expectations
1.SONY KDL40HX850
2.SAMSUNG UA40ES6800

I will state that your requirements do not justify extremely high PQ oriented TVs. I say this because you do not watch pure 1080p HD stuff. So basically, if you buy Sony HX850 or Panasonic ST50 you will have bragging rights but will have spent too much money. You can save the money and buy a higher size model such as Samsung 46ES6800. But then ST50 (if at all available) is just around 1 Lakh while 46HX850 will be 1.18 Lakh or so. What I would recommend to you are either 46EX650 or 46HX750.

If i use Blu ray player then above wont be an issue. Correct me if i'm wrong

Thanks everyone especially avmaxfan and just4kix for giving me a valuable posts.
I will look for Panasonic ST50 if at all not available then i will go either Sony KDL46HX850 or KDL40HX850. I just checked the price tag of KDL46HX850 in India times shopping and that seems to around 1,16,000 including delivery.May be it get reduced during diwali sales and i will till then.

Always best to go for a bluray player than media player...most bluray players have these advantages..
1.Can play bluray disk...so obvious.
2.Can play good old dvd disk and have superior up-conversion than media player(in media player we can play the .vob and .ifo files).
3.All bluray players support ntfs format like media players.
4.You will get superior video/audio quality in bluray player.
5.All bluray players can play various format including mkvs.
6.Bluray players have better processor and on board ram to handle smooth playback and UI than media players.
7.Bluray players support various streaming services like media player.
8.Some bluray players like this year sony's bluray players support full decoding of hd lossless audio codec such as DTS HD MA and Dolby True HD via hdmi. Media players only decode the core part of these two lossless audio codec in much lower bit-rate..while via these blurays you will get full bit-rate decoding...driveless players won't have the license for full decoding but only pass through.

If i use Blu ray player then above wont be an issue. Correct me if i'm wrong

for a disk person blu ray player
for a downloded material person a media player....

however a blu ray player is future proof if someday you plan to rent or buy bds.but at the same time check the hd audio bit streaming and all type file playing capability of the blu ray player.
