Termites on speakers

I know a friend whose Wharfedales ( I think) have silk fabric dome tweeters which were colonised by ants.

Though the ants are not there anymore, after being chased away with Mortein flying insect spray, they left tiny holes in the tweeter silk fabric.

Thankfully, the tweeters still work well but, seeing and being reminded of the cause behind the holes in the fabric makes one fume in desperation and relief about what would have happened had the ants not been detected on time.

Is the solution as simple as installing a bright light or will installing some device which produces sounds above 20khz......so as to disturb them:D
I made an Ultra Sonic oscillator which changes frequency 30KHz-50KHz in 10 steps within every 2 sec. This was placed near one end of the room. It seems that it is effective to 10-15Ft distance and some obstructions like sofa, heavy furniture provide shield from those sound waves and these creatures just go in hiding or move undercover:mad:. So if installed near door or Window then it prohibits their entry. Nobody likes noise. That's all.

I use the services of Godrej for my apartment in Bengaluru. It is fully furnished, unoccupied and locked. Thank God, I do not have any such issues so far (2 yrs). Godrej services have been used for cockroaches, ants, termites, rodents and woodborer. Quite a VFM serice (<5k per year).

Thats MY story. :ohyeah: I don't recall having a friend who is as good at spinning horror story lines like you do :D

How are the sonics. Will valve based gear make a difference?

OK more seriously, does it impact Hi-frequency SQ when playing music - like air and transients, snap etc?

I think sonic was bad. Valve based system can make them come forward, listen to it and get away. :D

I could not make out any difference as 100WX2 speakers against 2-3W in small tweeter. Though landlord's dog used to bark at us upstairs whenever we started this gadget. This was making some impact. :)
