The best tv that 1 Lakh can fetch me

This fact really pisses me off. On one hand I didn't want smart features but I have to opt for a smart tv as invariably the higher priced ones have best PQ but come with these features. Now on the other hand if I buy such a TV it would be a waste if one doesn't use the features, as in your case...I guess I shall have to give it a try at least & see..

Btw would my reliance usb dongle work if I attach it to a smart tv?

No it would not work since your tv is not smart enough to interact with this any dongle. If it isfor internet on tv and not high speed videos on youtube then wireless can still work out with high powered routers and / or wireless bridges. But nothing beats wire though until AC protocol in dongles take over N.

regarding viewing videos etc...good old method is best in my opinion.
which is playing them from a player a br player or a media player via hdmi...
if you do have a good speed, use the speed to dl youtube videos...
well thats my opinion...others may vary

guys can you pls assist me by helping me narrow down to a few models? I understand the Pana ST50 & Samsung E8000 would fit in my budget. I have time in my hands...any new models coming up in 2013 which one can watch out for?

It appears that you have decided upon plasma technology.
If stocks exist, grab the 50st50. ;)

Or you can grab 50GT50 as well as there is now only about 5K price difference between these models. It seems, atleast in Pune, 50ST50 price increased a bit and 50GT50 price declined a bit. Now dealers here are quoting 105K for 50ST50 and 110K for 50GT50. Prices in Pune are usually higher because of VAT. Only problem is the availability of these models.

I inquired here in Kol, ST50 is around 1.09k before bargaining so it will probably come down to Pune price levels as you quoted. So I will need to choose GT50 42' or else ST50 50inch as both prices are same just the screen size differs..

If that is the case, i would go for 50ST50 anytime.

Chirag,

Just a thought- since you have a budget of 1 lakh, why dont you opt for a PJ- an Epson Full HD 3D will cost you around 95-96k. After that you no longer have to worry about screen size. You can change the size from 50 inches to 300 inches.

Hahaha, thats a good one...never thought about it before. But the Issue is since it's a 117 year old house, there are lots of cupboards windows & doors- free wall space is limited. Hence I have to stay with TVs

My Plasma dream is fizzling out. As Pana is pulling the plug on it's plasma business my option is either the Sammy E8000 or else LED. I'm not sur whether at all I want to go for a Plasma other than Pana, so in effect I will have to start my research on LEDs from scratch now

Yes do consider the LG LM7600 led tv's or even the samsung ones in the same range.
As far as your internet woes go you just need to buy a wifi router from DLink or any other good brand, but provided the tv you buy has built in wifi :)

Don't get disheartened. Panasonic may continue in plasma business for some time. Wait till Jan.

This is exactly what I'm going through right now. I'm in dilemma right now. I'm considering buying 50ST50 or 50GT50. However, I'm not sure about Panasonic's customer care as I've never bought a Panasonic product before. All I can rely on is other forum member's experience with Panasonic customer care. I've used Samsung products before and I've experienced very good customer care from Samsung. So though 3 years Panasonic warranty on plasma panel sounds good in theory, I'm not sure if they would honour it when you need it. One of our forum members is having hard time dealing with Panasonic customer care with problems with his TV (42ST50).

The other option I was considering was Samsung 51E8000. However, this model is not available in Pune now. And dealers are saying it's now discontinued. Only other option I've now is 51E550 from Samsung. This TV is available for much less (approx. 25K less) compared to 50ST50. I'm still not convinced whether I should really be spending that much extra.

Listen Buddy, since we are in the same boat we could help each other. I have time in my hands, so Im going to see what happens in Jan & let u know regarding prices of specific models here in Kol, at least.

I too saw the Sammy E550 plasma yesterday- it simply floored me, amazing machine & that too @78k. But I am quitting the plasma race for sure. The reason for it is that on one hand I have to continously worry about IR & burn in issues like other plasma owners & more so regarding light reflectivity on screens & higher power consumption. And the icing on the cake now is Panna pulling out & even Sammy & LG not available in abundance. This clearly potrays the fact that plasmas are not selling. If that be the case, forget about servicing & parts availability.

If you ask me, plasma is a sinking ship which one should avoid getting into. And to do this knowingly is being plain stupid. It might seem like a value proposition but if it fails (there are lots of instances) then youv'e had it!!!

So bottomline is that I am shifting towards the Sony HX850 series which has rave reviews everywhere. I may not be able to afford the 55 inch but will settle for the 46 inch, in case I do buy it. Im yet to take a demo though.

let me know about your thoughts...

I was checking another thread where youv'e mentioned that Panas quitting TV business altogether & here youv'e said that they may continue??

Yeah, I've also heard good things about Sony HX850 and considered it breifly. However the problem is, even a 46 incher costs 120K+. Almost 50K more than 51E550. My thinking is, no matter what TV I buy now, I may need to replace it 5-6 years down the line with a new TV. So right now I'm looking for a TV with good PQ and best value for money proposition which will serve me at least for 5-6 years.

Someone selling slightly used hx-925 46 incher under warranty. Try negotiating if you interested.

Had a demo of 46HX 850 yesterday and not at all impressed with the SD quality.

TV program was dance competition and there were lot of judder. Star Cricket HD also had some visible motion blur.

Hmmm, that is a problem & moreover Sony rarely offers discounts on any of its products.
