Hi Guys,

The Audio People are in the process of phasing out the Thiel CS1.6 speakers which are stopped last year. This is to make way for CS1.7 speakers which are imminent in 2 months from now.

I got an offer of 85k with bill and 10 yr warrenty after much negotiation. These are "New Old Stock" speakers, meaning they were in the original packing for all these years (3+).

They were being sold for 2L mrp and 1.6L street price till last year dec. Internationally they were sold for $2400.

85k for these speakers is a very good price. They perform great and anyone looking for around the price range should demo them.

They are willing to give away center channel speakers (SCS3 model) also at a discount (~30k) for those interested in matching Centers for HT.

You can audition them in Chennai, Hyderabad and Gurgaon.

Currently they have 1 pair of dark cherry and 2-3 black pairs. Dark cherry is great and black is.. well black..

So if you are looking in the price range, please dont forget to audition these.

For instance, the Monitor Audio RX6s which sell for 75k comes nowhere near these in any of the characteristics. Thiels are like 2 level upgrades compared to the Monitor audio Silvers.

So, there you go.. :)

thanks Blasto. Any deals on higher models?

No other thiel floorstands <2.5L.

There was SCS4T which I auditioned today. They were 'priced' higher but god.. they dint sound anywhere close to the CS1.6. I wanted to like them but I can't with CS1.6 by the side. Could be 'just out of box' problem.

The 2.3s have bad reviews all over the internet and is 7+ years old. Even if they had the stock I wouldn't be interested.

The only other older model is 3.6 which are like 7+L mrp. Surely out of range by a mile.

Also there is Monitor Audio GS20 and GS60 which can be taken home for 90k-1L and 1.2-1.3L if you go with cheque book in hand.

Gloss black look awesome and the GS20 in particular is very close to GS60 in performance but in the silver series arena. Good value for money.

how do an outstation person pull out the chequebook? :)
thiel sounds like a good deal. Let me hear them.
What is the pricing for 2.4?

I talked to Jalal and he said you can collect it from Bass&Treble Gurgaon.
They happen to be sourcing from Jalal only. ;)

Mighty 2.4 is 3.7L. Ouch..

anyone pressed 1.6s in an HT setup in a largish room? They would definitely need sub support as bass response is quite limited, as what I have read around.

The reviews are correct..Definitely, it needs sub for HT setup, i tried to use in my HT setup(10x22ft), not happy without sub.

I have a largish room ~20x30 with listening position at 12-14 ft. Sub is there for lowest frequency. But does it perform well for music only without sub? And even with sub, some speakers would sound thin in a large room.

Only you can say. Get a home demo.

let's see if I can get a home demo. Did you have to commit on buying before you got the home demo?

Lol.. No.. Atleast with audio people..
Dont know about bass&treble.

Will PM you jalal's number.. talk to him.. He will accomodate.

Edit: Sent.

Hey Anm,
You got home demo. :)
You need to contact denny from bass&treble and inform that jalal asked to give home demo.
No obligation to buy for the demo.

Payment and delevery can be had from the same place.
Send me your name in PM for reference.

Thanks,

Hey Arvind,

It is 30k confirmed. Just coming back from a call with Jalal.
Ask Denny from Bass&Treble to check with Jalal in Audio People chennai.

CS1.6 + SCS3 comes to 1.15L.

Update: All pieces in Chennai and Hyderabad are gone.
People in Gurgaon, If there is any available confirm ASAP.

I will be closing this thread shortly.

I have a question.
Doesn't 'any' HT setup need a sub?

Sure, try the statements, zaph audio sb12.3, B&W 800 series floorstanders with dual woofers etc. I am sure there are more such examples. Anything with a tweet, mid and dual 12" or dual 10" will most probably not need a sub, unless of course you want to hit 10hz at high spl levels.:)
