Huh? I would have found this useful if I hadnt been compeltely disgusted by point nos 2 and 3 above already!
 
I bought a Sony LCD TV from Dubai a few months back and the warranty is valid in India. The warranty sticker on the carton explicitly says so. The warranty card also mention the same.
 
On the packaging part....It all depends on which airline and airport you are flying out from. The original packing is more than enough if it is Emirates / Singapore Air etc or airports like Dubai / Singapore etc. These types of cheked in baggages are pratically hand handled and not pushed on the belts. my personal experience at these airports and with these arilines on such packages has been great. But back in India you are at the mercy of the baggage handlers at our desi airports who wouldn't mind throwing away the baggages inspite of the " Glass - Handle with care" stickers on the packages. It's all the attitude...Mere baap ka kya jata hai!!!

My cousin bought a Samsung TV from France and it worked without any problem with Tata Sky Settop box. The voltage system in Europe is 220V similar to India and also the color system is PAL or maybe he bought a PAL color system TV as I am not sure about that. Yes, it works good even if bought from Europe but no warranty.
