I recently shopped for 50 inch led tv.
After checking all tv from SONY, LG, SAMSUNG.

Sony triluminous panels were outstanding.

Is triluminous technology software related or hardware (panel) related ?

triluminous was awesome for me too ... OLED have bad black levels .. looses lot of details

It's software.. I bought Sony TV 9 months back, but the model is one level below triluminous...Difference is minimal but noticeable !

If i am not wrong, it enhances the colors only, it doesn't touch other aspects like refresh rates, contrast ratio etc.

Hi Mani,

I own a 50" 3D+Smart TV from Sony with Triluminous Panel. As educated by the Sony Service Center fellow it is the Hardware Panel not the software. Which is costly than the Non-Triluminous panel.

Thanks and Regards,
Sujit

Oled vs LED LCD

I suggest backing up your claims instead of sweeping claims without fact or data.

Over and above all this, I am a visual designer. I can promise you this years oled is only surpassed by the professional 17,000usd sony oled used for movie production.

Please don't make claims over what you don't know. If you've had a bad experience with a faulty piece, the technology isn't at fault. Other things including your handlings, settings and lack of knowledge may be responsible.

I heard that Sony will be unveiling it's OLED 55/66" models in January?

Sony does not manufacture and have no plans on manufacturing oled. If they introduce it, it will 100% be from LG as the only other maker that is starting up oled production using a different fabrication process is panasonic and they have yet to release a fully functional prototype.

Sony is researching cLED which is essentially a new type of backlight which will be as thin as oled but it will still be LCD based. A feeble attempt to being lcd led closer to oled but will be cheaper yes.

Samsung is launching QLED (Quantum-Dot LED) - a new class that brings best of both worlds of Quantum Dot display with high brightness and Wide Colour Gamut and individually shutting pixels like OLED. They have applied for trade marks for "HDR 1500", "Q HDR" and "Real Black". We can make a wild guess that this line will have 1500 nits of brightness and 100% or more DCI-P3 gamut. Seems that Samsung is gearing up for its lost crown...

I think , they already have this Quantum-Dot LED units in the market* (i guess it is 3rd generation - hdr 1000) , hdr1500 might be launched in jan 1st Week.

uhhh....

I was under the impression that , Audi, really meant bad ass, really bad ass black levels. while all other "looses lot of details".
after having seen these beauties in action for myself!, Did not occur that people would still be so mistaken!

anyway, my personal preference will still be Oled. ( quantum dot ... trimul...all are secondary )

@sbg: What they have is SUHD that is based on Quantum Dot Layer and HDR-1000. QLED is different technology. Expected to launch in CES 2017.

Quantum dot was used by somy and abandoned due to excessive shifts in colour. In 2012 their hx series used it. Samsung has been using it for past year but its not comparable to oled. Qled is only a layer where as oled is the entire layer itself, picture and backlight all in one. A different technology entirely. In the coming year lg will be releasing an oled wallpaper tv.
