UE46D8000 bringing to india

I am planning to buy samsung UE46D8000 3d ledtv and costing me 1.1 lac in uk and i want to take it my home bangalore.
I am flying either airindia/emirate, will arilines allow 46inch tv in baggage ? hoping it will not break in airline transit... For customs in bangalore , how much tax i have to pay? or else i have to bribe the custom officer. ... Did anybody experience, how much they will take?


UE46D8000 tv, please anybody tell me how much it cost in india?

you can get it in india for 1.3-1.4L . There is no point in bringing from there as you will be paying more including customs

Please note only upto 42 Inches TV is allowed as accompanied baggage. 46" can be booked as UAB only ie Un accompanied baggage in which case you have to pay huge freight and you have to approach a local authorised C&F agent for clearing your UAB, who will able to clear it for you. The approximate duty would be 12 gto 15 K lumpsum on 46" TV + agent charges around 750 to 1000 rs.

Instead you can book it by some courier like DHL, TNT, anyother reputed courier who is ready to accept TVs. They will take care of customs formalities and will deliver at your door step but you may have to shell out more than bringing it your self.

With all this it is not wise to bring big TVs at the purchase cost that you had mentioned as I don't thing it is an attractive price to venture the risk of bringing. Instead you can buy the same from local grey market who will deliver it at your residence, switch it on and collect cash. A 55" Sony EX720 is costing only between 1.1 to 1.15 Lakhs only in chennai with my reliable sources.

Please Think Twice Thrice before venturing.

Bangalore international airport has a duty free shop where they sell some electronics , mostly SONY brand TVs and players @ U.S. prices. You can call the store manager and check the current stock/models. Do not worry about carrying it outside as they deliver to your doorstep. And all items have SONY India warranty too.

In India Samsung has UA46D6600 which has CMR 400hz and has built in wifi and web browser and smart tv and 3D etc. This model is almost identical to 46D6510 and is available for around 1.1L. The 46D8000 is available for around 1.3-1.4L around here depending on where you buy.

Sir you got it wrong by saying Airlines do not allow any size more than 40-42 " in normal baggage/cargo handling compartment's....any size that is more than 30" is considered as OVER SIZED Baggage and is classified as " Oversize Cargo " Tag which is put in separate pallet of similar sized cargo's in cargo compartment.
Airline's charges cargo fee's on weight's not on size or dimensions of cargo which should fit in cargo pallets of plane.

If total weight exceeds max permissible capacity then Airline will charge extra on kg's exceeding.

46" LED's can weight at most 14-17 Kg's.

I got 4 LED's with 3 of 46" and one 40" with each classified as oversize baggage.Never had any problems regarding luggage weight's or size.

More over i have seen people getting 51"/55" as their luggage.

Custom duty charges are 35.06 % on total value of goods above 25K Rs.
Grey market price of 46D8000 in Delhi is around 1 Lac.

Does anybody has idea about price of Sony 46Ex520 in Gaffar Market Delhi..

And any chance of its price going down in coming days ..since now a days dollar rate is expensive and grey market ppl must be bringing these items at higher dollar rates..
So if in next few days ,dollar comes down at 46-47INR..then the TV price should fall..

Rate at Gaffar varies depending on which dealer you are dealing with...if you know some local Gaffar people then expect 5-10% extra discount if not then it will be busy shopping time.
Do not expect $$ to fall at that rapid rate...better plan for 5% extra budget from current $ price !

I got all my LED's from Bangkok ....and it was 25-35% cheaper then Indian official retail rates along with 10-15% cheaper than grey market price.

Check this site " lcdtvthailand.com " to get idea on prices.That site is compiled by prices taken from whole of Thailand but do make (-+) 10% on that sites prices.
In December , Sony 46EX520 was retailing in range of 30-34K THB.

Getting from Dubai / Thailand will be way cheaper including customs and don't think about warranty as Sony/Samsung both give 1 year warranties.Believe me its worth buying from outside...

Samsung - Warranty card and register at Samsung Site...though some version model numbers may vary from Thai to Indian Samsung site.

Sony - You will get registered it while purchasing the unit.

Thanks John..This was really informative..completely agree on $$ hedging...

But one concern...Gaffar is around 20-25% cheaper than Market price.
So is it really worth buying 46 incher from Thailand which may be 3k -5k cheaper than thailand .. and risk of getting damage a bit high +customs hassles.


I am yet to see anybody qouting here 46incher Sony ex520 price in gaffar..
Any idea on that..

As such I dont have anybody local in gaffar so not able to go for 5-10% extra discount..

Getting 46" will be more than 3K-5K Rs cheaper....as i said prices varies from place to place but that site which i posted above collects latest price of TV's from Thailand so expect most of them being official retail internet price.


I got 46EX520 for 27,699 THB from Pantip plaza in Nov @ exchange rate of 1 THB = 1.54 RS , which gives me Indian price of 42656 Rs for 46EX520.
Gave about 5K Rs for custom including 46" + rest of things...

Ohh and got VAT refund of almost 7% from Bangkok Airport + some Crew discount which made my deal even sweeter.

I got price of 38000 Rs for 32EX520 from Gaffar :lol: and 42000 Rs from local showroom.

My last visit to some local bangkok mall gave me quotes of
40EX520 - 25,500 THB( Pantip Plaza ) / 29,999 THB ( Siam Sony Showroom )
46EX520 - 31,900 THB ( "" "" )/ 34,999 THB ( "" "" )

This is rate at or around 25 DEC 2011.
I believe prices have been increased to somewhat 5% as X-mass holidays are over.
