Just received my package of the much coveted RSR from Magma. Wait guys for the update on my blind date with the RSR.
Thanks.

Hi,
finally got a chance this afternoon to try the RSR with my turntable.
I must say it is very well packed and the package is very essential to store it properly when not in use.

Here is a picture of my TT with the RSR.

It is very easy to use. I never really had to use the centering ring to place it on the records. It just self centers itself. However I must say the acrylic centering disc is very essential to put the ring in the case to restrict its lateral movement.

My primary expectation from a RSR was it must restrict the movement of my tone arm in a vertical plane while playing a warped record. To test this I put the reasonably warped vinyl Time Out by Dave Brubeck ( which is brand new but thanks to Amazon got warped) and the tone arm moved flawlessly without any movement vertically. I played many other warped records and results are very satisfactory in that respect.

Now coming to the sonic the RSR has enhanced the dynamics quite a bit and sound has become more resolving. However the performances, which sounded very lively there the liveliness, got tamed a bit as if taking he performers couple of steps backwards. Overall I liked what I heard otherwise I wouldnt have listen to music for 2 hours uninterrupted, which is very unusual for my habit.

From my research I know this not the ideal ring for my table as it weighs only 480 gms but I really liked what I saw and heard. I think I will go for the heavier version of this ring which is optimum for my table.

Lastly I must thank Magma for making this tricky thing possible and providing this accessory to the vinyl aficionados Keep up the good work.

Thanks.

nice pic
im glad you liked it
I was interesting to build it

now we need to figure out the VPI
P.S the rim edge which sits over the record is only 0.3mm thick which is fine for this ring.
You think if it were increased to 0.5 it would cause any issue?
I would need this info for the VPI

Hi,
have a look at the attached picture. According to it 0.8 mm should be the maximum but to be honest it all depends on the cartridges people have. For my case I am not really sure how to get that tiny measurement from my cartridge. Can anybody suggest any method? Or they are easily available info.
Thanks.

centre weights have arrived from anodise coat

rings were expected today but have been delayed by a day or two

Ready to tackle the VPI ring next week- thanks to inouts from mahi and others

a small update

Here is a composite centre weight
3 parts
One is a 45rpm adapter, the other part is the 75mm dia composite which can be made of brass ( though the current one is Aluminium) and the last part is the Aluminium Top

Other pics are of a 5mm TT dust cover i made for a Rega
Note : the front , top and back are 1 pc ( they have been heated and bent)
I have used 5mm when most cover use 3mm
Handle is yet to be attatched since the client did not want a slot ( which is acts like a handle that is a feature in most readymade TT dustcovers)

MUSICDIRECT - GINGKO - DUST COVER FOR MARANTZ TT-15S1 TABLE TOP

later we may add a weather strip to make sure Absolutely NO dust gets in even if your rack surface is not level

Ali,

Hats off to you :clapping:. Absolutely beautiful dust cover. Hope the price is affordable for some of us. Please send me a PM regarding possibilities for my TT.

Regards.

Hi Magma

Would be interested in a dust cover for my EMT 938. Pl mail me the possibilities for my TT

Hi Magma,

Received the TT clamp yesterday. It was beautifully machined and was easy to remove and re-position on a running platter. The weight was also just right.
From initial hearing, it does make a difference, especially with bass response.

Thanks a heap!

regards,

im glad you like it and can hear the difference- that is whats important!

@prem,taurean - will pM accordingly

I am very much intrested in the RSR and the clamp but wanted to confirm from members that the same would not pose any problems with regard to speed for my belt driven TT. I have a Project RPM1

Hi Dillihifi,

The peripheral ring should not be an issue. Don't think the clamp will affect speed. Project tends to make different weights for different tts in it's range. Maybe they are weight matched to the bearing and motor? My gut feel is it should be ok.

Regards

Hi,
I have tried the basic RSR with my Projet Debut III and it worked fine. The only issue is it has very little room to rotate as the tonearm base is coming in the way. So it should be best if you get the width of the RSR from magma and check your table if it has enough free space to accomodate the ring.
Thanks.

It looks great. But is there any problem in using the clamp and ring together?
Abhijit

Weight itself is quite heavy. So I used them separately. Weight for normal records. Ring for warped ones. I didn't try them together. This particular turntable is a belt drive, and not one of those high-torque idler drives, and doesn't even have a speed adjustment. So I don't think it is a good idea to use them together. It will slow down the speed.
