I have been googling for a used receiver with 5.1 preouts for using my rotel RB 985 MKii power amplifier budget 15k. I have a pair of Polk TSI 300 & Yamaha RX365 which sounds too bright for my taste, So looking for a change. Confused with these two options. Demo is not possible:sad: so plz don't advice to audition. I want your help to decide guys

Yamaha RX-V995 5.1 100 WPC ( very old don't know how many years,retail price was around 1000$)
Denon AVR 1907 ( 2006 model retail price was around 550$)

Offer price for
Yamaha RX-V995 - 15000
Denon AVR 1907 - 11000

1. My doubt is will yamaha sound to bright?
2. Is Denon much warmer will it sound good? I don't want very warm also

Which will be your choice if ur in my position guys?

Denon works gr8 with polk for movies. if you want to use it for music then yamaha with whaferdale speakers or sonodyne will be good.Yamaha and polk is not good combination imho.Experts can advice on this?

Even My vote goes to Denon,

Personally i have used Both.Yamaha should be good for Movies and not much into music compared to Denon.

With Denon you never go wrong.

with the kind of issue going on with Denon i would rather stay way and pull the trigger on Yamaha though as mentioned yamaha might be a bit bright for your setup.

My take is the Yamaha, as it is an older AVR and so the build quality might be better. I would also mention that you need to check if either of these have had any service issues. See the maintenance of the individual pieces so that can help you decide.

For 5.1 preout,You can get Denon OR Yamaha either.Yamaha is better in music due to Burr brown DAC. Denon series **07 or earlier had better sound for both movies and music.

What was the source material you used & the connectivity you used to play them in your AVR...

Sometimes the source material is also to be blamed...

For the model he had suggested, mine is opposite to your views :), Yamaha is better and its important to see the speaker pairing.

Mixed responses from you guys which makes the thread more interesting & confuses me more:confused:. By the way I have got my Denon AVR 1907. Will be checking it tonight, Hope my polkies match denon better & perform much superior than Yamaha RX-V365.
