Vertical Green line in Sony 40EX500

Sony Customer service is pathetic.
I called them up on Sunday to know the status & the Service center tells me that they have sent the set to Mathura road on Sat itself.
When i asked " what is the current status of the complaint?" ( are they just sitting on the damn thing?! ) ; i got the answer that only Sony can tell me that.
After my pestering he called Sony up & then lets me know that it will take 6 days for your panel to come from Singapore.

I am like WTF !!
Mathura road is like the mini-Sony factory where they must keep panels in stock for replacing bad ones in their TVs. Now giving the excuse that the panel needs to come in from Singapore is pretty chilsdish ( who is Sony kidding..)

& worst part; the email given on the job sheet given to me " [email protected]" just bounces back & is the only way to contact Sony directly if you have any concern..

Not only Sony, you name any company the after sales service in this country is awful and the poor & corrupt consumer protection system are to be blamed for it.

Customers are taken for a ride after the sales deal is completed because these colossal corporations knows very well that nothing will happen to them even if the customer takes legal actions against them.

It may even happen that you will not be alive to see the court judgment as it will take a long time.

I have the same frustrating experience with Sony, Samsung, Philips,HP Service and the list is endless..they all are same except in very few cases..

Pray to God that you get your set serviced or replaced in time .........

Sony doesn't have a manufacturing facility in Singapore, its either assembled in Thailand or Malaysia. The panels are imported from japan or Korea to assembly plants in Thailand or Malaysia.
Replacing panels takes time from any manufacturer, since all have to be imported.
Even in the US , it takes time for them to replace the panel.

Lastly check the voltage in your place and get a good stabilizer, since it can happen again.

@adder

Do you have any idea about the boards for Sony CRT TV. My 29" DR29 is lying at the Sony service center from past 5 weeks waiting for board.
I did not have TV to watch and in hurry I got Panasonic 32" for my bedroom.

Thanks adder for posting in this thread.
I am using a Digi 100 voltage stabilizer from day1.

I have quoted whatever story they have told me about the panel coming from Singapore.

My gripe with Sony is that thier usual M.O seems to be to source a panel every time a service request comes- which is downright lazy/idiotic on part of Sony; they could very well keep a stock of a certain number of panels & order replenishment as & when needed so that T.A.T is reduced..

@bobby76
Well the DR was really good ,had much better PQ then the newer "SPARKLING WEGA" , its mostly MADE IN JAPAN.
Ask them what exactly need to be replaced in the board,do they have the service manual. You can try NON sony service centres to,the sony service guys won't touch it if they don't have a service manual, nowdays they just replace the entire board, which is easier for them.2 years ago i got my samsung CRT monitor repaired in a NON-samsung service centre, since the samsung people insisted they change the entire board, instead of a replacing a small capacitor and a 3 pin IC.

Sony crt factories closed production some 3 years ago.the DR models where sold before 5 years ago.

@buxx
Yes it would be nice if they keep lcds panels in stock, unlike crts where the picture tube is mostly the same for all models in the size.in lcd every single model uses a different lcd, with different color filter or backlight. So the EX400 panel won't be compatible with EX500 panel or vise versa even though its of same SPVA tech.the EX700 uses different tech altogether.

Anyway good luck.keep us posted.

2Weeks & counting.
NO callbacks from Sony.
NO status reports.
NO TV.

A big fat NO on all counts.

I have had my share of customer service experiences; but this takes the cake.
Even, the much derided govt companies do a better job.

If any one from Sony India is listening- shame on you.

If this is the status for the TV model in production, What's going to happen when production stopped

"JUST IMAGINE"

SHAME ON YOU- SONY

This one is from my side- its 6 weeks for me. Not done yet

FYI...Sony stopped the EX500 model. Dealers are not taking any new orders on EX500.This I came to know when I tried to order for the friend of mine.

DAY 18:

this just keeps getting worse & worse..

I called up their service center on friday who informed me that:
1) a senior person is handling my case
2) i will be getting a call either today or tmrw

This has been their standard response during the entire thing. Not once had i received any callback.
But surprises, surprises..i did get a call that day.

The lady said that she is sorry <blah> <blah> <blah> & that i will be getting the TV on Sunday afternoon.

Now, sunday gone, monday gone.

I call them up today to hear that by today only the tv will reach the local service center handling my case & then i will get the TV.

Lets see, what happens..

sickening.

Got the TV after almost 3weeks!
this was not a very pleasant experience; maybe LCD Tvs are yet not right for mass consumption..!

Thank GOD that you have got back your set. These MNC Companies are nothing short of crooks when it comes to service and I have repeated experience of it.
Remember that most item you buy are all cheap chinese product no more Japanase items so the product life is very limited...............

PQ seems better; but that's primarily due to the fact that i had been watching my old Samsung LCD for all this while..

Firstly, congratulations. You must be relieved.

OTOH, I am beginning to understand why no manufacturer offers more than a year's warranty.

IMO, it perhaps makes sense to consider places like Croma that offer extended warranty for a small price.

Panasonic offers 3 years warranty by default.

And LG offers 3 years warranty for a price. I have 3 years warranty for my plasma TV (LG).

Thanks buddy ... that's interesting to know.

I wonder if its applicable to Panasonic LCDs too? They seem to have a formidable array of models lined up
