One clarification though before proceeding...There will be no issues in 5.1 from Blackbox....right??
Just got Videocon DTH installed today. They gave a new model SDHD-555 set top box which is black in color. Looks pretty small, when i check with the installation guy he said this is the latest one which is coming and currently they do not have the white one in stock. Anyone else using this new box, i am unable to find any information online for the same. It comes with a white color remote.
I have a whitebox (222) which seems to be a newer model..not sure if they have launched any new box recently...

The installation guy said that these are the new boxes that have come out and they are installing these this year.
Congrats Dushie, how is the picture on your new TV, SD as well as HD. Does the box look like the one in the link below except for the color. The white one is the 2222 HD box with the same RF remote which they were providing until some time back.

The RF remote becomes a pain after some use due to the poor quality construction but the RF point anywhere convenience tends to help a lot.

Yes the RF remote is funny, it makes clicking sound when you hit any button, just like a mechanical keyboard.
Yes,the box looks like this one, but color is black. It shows a red led when off which turns blue when it is turned on. Will try to click pictures and post on the weekend.
Yeah I guess the hardware is the same like the white 2222 HD box except for the color of the cabinet which I have been using for the past 5 months. I got the remote replaced once and the present one is on its way out.

Under warranty i am sure they will replace the remote free of cost. What happens post warranty ? . Found this remote on ebay.in, lots of people have bought it looks good.

Don't know if it is costlier than what Videocon charges for the remote. This one is black in color.

Bro, i don't know what you are exactly looking for as there are plenty of reviews already out there. Still will sum up my my thoughts for you.
I have been using Tata Sky for more than 6 years . Still have the primary connection but has disconnected the multiroom and gone for Vidieocon DTH.
Initially i had lot of apprehensions as people said there are issues, signal goes in rain and blah blah.
Well i don't find any difference in HD quality for Videocon DTH or Tata Sky. Both are similar. Advantage is Videocon here as i am getting more HD channels in the same price.
I know TS users or others will disagree. But i will just share my scenario so it can help other perspective buyers or people who want to switch.
I was on the basic pack of TS: The South special Cost Rs 170 per month. Along with this had English movies Rs 60 . This was basically for my Dad as he watches business news and movies only. For multiroom this is what i was paying : Rs 200 monthly fee, Rs 100 HD access fee and Rs 25 for colours and Mtunes HD. Total Rs 325.
I have shifted to Videocon and now i am paying Rs 166 Super silver pack, Rs 168 for HD Globe .Total Rs 335 per month.
In TS i was getting around 8 odd HD channels. In Videocon i am getting 21 HD channels. Also i am getting lot of channels which i was not able to view earlier in my TS package like, Star sports HD 1&2. Ten HD, Sony Six HD., Zee Studio, Life Ok HD , travel XP HD, star world HD etc.I have checked for 90% of the channels the PQ is very good and i can compare them to TS.
STB wise TS boxes look more durable, Videocon looks a bit plastic .. lets see how the life is. Remote wise i feel TS has more durable and better quality remotes as my 7 year old remote is still going strong that came with TS.
I would not be able to comment on sound quality as i am using this with a Bose 2.1 system and very happy with the same. On some channels it does show Dolby Digital Plus in the bottom left hand corner, so sound must be good, but i have not tried the same.
So i am afraid i must say now i understand why people have moved to Videocon DTH from TS. Videocon is cheaper and gives more bang for your buck. For me its giving me more HD channels. Would like to add Multiroom charges for TS is Rs 200 flat, but Videocon charges Rs 225 for higher packages for multiroom.
So i am happy with the decision of moving to Videocon HD. I paid Rs 1900 for HD STB which includes installation and for first month i am getting all channels for free. Also while ordering online i was getting an options to go for two south top ups free for life time from Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu & Kannada. I did not have any preference as such as i do not watch these channels. So on recommendation of sm_vlr (Muthu) who ordered this first i have selected Telugu and Tamil top up life time free, though i will not watch those.

Thanks for the link for the remote. Hope it is a better one than the white stuff. Some of the button shapes seem to be different.
Addendum: Just spoke to the service guy who says the black remote is not a RF remote.

Well i have messaged the ebay seller with the link for the RF remote. Let me see what he replies.

Videocon d2h is truly the best in all aspects but yea they need to improe their hardware quality, although i have not faced any hardware issue but the slow interface makes me believe that the hardware does not have a fast processor.
Regarding channels and pricing, no on can match Videocon d2h plu they r fastest in adding new SD and HD chs, they charge less as they make up for revenue by adding few crap chs for carriage fees. So this way they maiantain low package costs and earn additional revenue too which is win win situation for both customers and the company.
Airtel is good in all aspects but again they r evry choosy in adding new chs specially HD ones.
Tata Sky ia uttr waste. Thei main motive as i see is just to add least numbr of chs, charge highest and keep giving customers lame excuses. Don't understand any reason behind their strategy to wait for GSAT10 for 6 years without Plan B, Any other DTH operator with a will to add new channels would have shifted to a foreign satellite long ago. Just imagine they haven't increased their transponder capacity since inception and keep giving excuses to all. I suggested them long ago to move to MPEG4 as even they would have got TP's from GSAT10 still they would have had 12 TP's in all as in next two years they will lose transponders of Insat 4A as its life is ending but they did nothing. Now they r again giving sam excuse of not having space and tell that MPEG4 migration will take two years(another tactic to delay addition of chs) but as soon as they have will power to earn more revenue they add premium chs lik tar World Premier, HBO Hits, HBO Defined. Its useless to ask anything from them and better that all Tata SKY Users take Videocon d2h as i find Videocon d2h to b a honest DTH op

Do you mean the new Black Box Remote is IR or the one that is mentioned in the ebay link??
The new black box remote is RF only and is white in color. The remote on the ebay link is IR remote and is not RF, same was confirmed by the seller.

My channel and volume changing buttons were hard such that response from TV was very poor. Sometimes skip the channel or do not respond . I complained customer care and they replaced without question being asked . Excellent Customer service
