Videocon D2H initial impressions

I am new to DTH and the options that are available and have been following the threads about various operators. People in my house mostly watch telugu/kannada/english movie channels while I watch mostly documentaries so any package should have the best choices for those along with HD being a must. So I am thinking of ordering the Videocon Platinum HD pack for South (not looking to save money by going for separate packages) and going for the annual payment option. Is that a good idea or are there any other alternatives? Thanks in advance.

When i ordered a new connection online, they gave an option to go for two south top ups for free for lifetime. You can select Telegu and Kannada in that. Rest choose the package that fits your need the most. You can go for the platinum hD for the year option box. It would cost you around Rs 5930. Which is a very good deal.

Just sitting back after an exhausting session with couple of D2H technicians/ engineers, at the outset I must say that they were trying really hard to be helpful, and even did a software upload directly via an USB - which apparently is yet to be issued ( no 47) - improve Remote Lag time etc etc what I found was.
1. The UI is really a pain.
2. Scheduling a series recording is an exhausting business, and after all the screen choices are gone through: the name of the program to be recorded does NOT display !

Several other minor bugs that make using the D2H a pain after the relative sophistication of TS.

On the plus side - quite a lot more channels and some channels seems to have less cross advts than the feed on TS. Picture quality is on par with TS.

I am now subscribed to a local cable operator with a digital stb which is good (for Rs. 250 pm). I am getting 160 odd channels. For the sake of HD I am planning to migrate to dth platform. After a long research I have zeroed on to Videocon d2h. My question is will I be really benefited from the changeover? I will end up paying Rs.500 for South platinum hd pack, is it worth money wise?
Pl take time to answer my these very basic questions....
Thanks

You can select a basic package like south silver and the hd package as addon. The monthly rate will be around 370pm only. This my current package. I usually recharge for Rs.400/- that gives me around 35 days.

I have opted for the same South silver package for Rs 165 and HD globe for Rs 169. Total Rs 335 per month. Otherwise you can go for South Gold HD Rs 388, that also has all the HD channels apart from Star World premier.

I can't access many of the HD channels today. When I select Star Movies or Movie Now HD it shows insufficient balance error message. These channels worked initially when I switched on the stb, but after switching to some other channels and when came back later, I can't access them anymore. When selecting Star Sports HD2, the channel displayed is DD Chandana!. Any one experiencing this problem?

Update - Problem solved by contacting the customer care service.

I had taken a new D2H connection (Two STB's HD + South Platinum packages) after taking all the reviews on this thread.

I had shifted to a new house in which cable wiring was done from terrace to the ground floor and looping dine to all the rooms.

After waiting eagerly ordering online, the technician arrived and surprised me saying that individual STB's should be wired seperately(so I have to lay seperate cables to individual STB's) from Antenna and cannot loop with one cable.

AT the antenna the LNB will have provision for 2 nos or 4 nos according to requirement.

Surprisingly I had observed that the technician is charging money seperately for 4 nos connection LNB to accomodate 4 connections if you want to use the same STB in different rooms.

I thought of sharing this on the forum to help members contemplating a new connection with multiple TV's & STB's.

This is the same for D2H or TS or airtel.

Can anyone add thier experience of using same cable from antenna and looping and using two seperate STB's

single wire can't be used in case te concerned dth uses dual polarity on its transponders. Videocon d2h and airtel uses both horizontal and vertical polarity on its transponders so single wire for both stb's can't be used as if suppose u want to watch a channel which is running on horizontal tp then u won't be able to watch any other ch which is working on vertical transponder as single wire can't carry both signals

I do not understand the dual polarity concept - but the opposite -ie any broadcaster who does not use dual polarity transponders can transmit to multiple STB's from the same cable through looping/jointing?

If D2H and Airtel are ruled out who else uses single polarity transponders? Tata Sky??

Is it that D2H uses two transponders?

I do not understand the dual polarity concept -

I guess explaining the concept would be long winded. To keep it simple -It is NOT the number of STBs that one wire can feed- there are now TWO tuners in your STB -so you can watch one channel and record another simultaeneously- so most modern STB need two wires. Hope this helps.:)

I got my Videocon D2H HD installed last Sunday (Ordered on Saturday) and was delivered withing 24 hrs. I'm getting Dolby Digital sound on all the HD channels and I can hear the surround sound effect.

The installation engineer explicitly stated that one can get DD 5.1 sound through HDMI and I can confirm it. So my setup is as this STB (Model No.2222) > HDMI > TV & TV>Digital Optical Cable>HTiB (Home Theater in a Box).

I'm impressed with the quality and the promptness of the service. Hope this is helpful for people looking out for reviews.

Cheers
Amit

I did not take the recording tyep STB but a simple HD only STB. SO I do not believe the STB of mine has two tuners.

I got the Videocon D2h installed in the evening yesterday. I am happy with the overall process.
I have one question, can I connect SPDIF out to my Denon 1611 using normal single RCA cable (for DD Audio) ?
Expert users please clarify this...
Thanks in advance.

You can, and you will get DD. I am using a normal RCA cable to connect spdif to avr.

Which Home theater u have?Is it the 5.1 system which easily available at any outlets or HT with dedicated AVR n all?
