Hi,

After following up with manufacturers, it seems this route is not a legal way to get the warranty claims on device. I saw the official noification from LG saying, they dont endorse any claims from online purchases for TVs. So I called up infibeam, and asked them to provide authorization from the manufacturer. They said they dont have any agreement, and those people also doesnt understant legal implications of selling like this.

I wonder what other has to say in this forum. Getting at a good price is good for eveyone. But it is risky to purchase costly devices like LED TV which can be prone to hardware and hardware issues nowadays. In US, all the legaility exists in online purchases, so that is the best route, here in India, NO RULEZ.

Is big online sellers are NOT registered as MODERN TRADE? They should and so should enjoy dealer status.

Anyone working for online firms?

I think it is as per the consumer law, anything legally sold in India, should be covered under waranty as per the company policy whether few months to few years. As the online shops are selling legally and have paid all taxes as per laws, the products sold by them need to be serviced by the respective brands. If LG has issued such a letter, then they can be taken to task by the online retailers, as it is illegal for LG to determine, what way the product is being sold, online, or through shops. Yes they can at best stop offering their products to the online shops. But there are many regular shops who are offering their products under official warranty at ebay and such other marketplace.

Also there are many who sells online as well as through stores, like ezone & Croma. Then how they will distinguish the online sells. It is too complicated for any company to control sells and yes once official (India) products are bought by a consumer he must be given all the services as per the entitlement as per the policy, be it warranty, installation etc.

Hi folks,

Infibeam was not ready put thier tag / signatures to the warranty card. They said no , citing they get it from some other bulk retailers. There is no mechanism for the customer to get it signed as of now.

I saw the LGs notice at the dealer shop - Girias. It clearly cites that online shopping they dont support for warranty.

Well maybe LG is trying to test if someone would challenge them in court as this is against consumer law. The dealer could also be pulled up for putting the notice on their shop. There is a huge price difference while purchasing from dealer and from online shop. The online shop works out much cheaper and these manufacturers would like to put some kind of pressure on the consumer and make sure they buy it through a dealer where the profit margin works out more for the dealer and the manufacturer.

There are also some genuine problems faced by manufacturers when their products are sold online but instead of trying to gag and curtail the online business they need to come out with some ideas which would benefit both the manufacturers and consumers.

In any case dealer never handles warranties, the authorised service centres do it. So why LG will send such letters to the Shops instead of the service centres. You may please directly enquire with service centre whether it is true, I am certain it is bogus. But will be happy if anyone can verify.

It must be the dealer who posted the bogus notice to make ppl buy from them.

The products are covered under warranty.

In case they are not both the online seller and the manufacturer can be taken to the court.

Asking the service center directly is a good idea

i think the dealer himself just posted the notice...
i have experienced many times with stuffs like geysers/toasters etc bough online...and got seriveced from local bajaj service centre..
they bother about the bill and warranty card..

anyway i am also interested to know the actual facts...

i mean no offence....online shop is just like a local shop...dealing online....a shop owner can participate online..if he is provinding warranty card to his local customers...and also to his online customers....what is the differenvce in the warranty card...

and dealers forget your face when item is sold....they clearly point the finger towards service centres...so why not online than a local dealer
in fact in jamshedpur..online sabjis bhajis are being sold....good quality and competetive rate..free home delivery:lol:
anyway i think service centres can confirm this issue

Well,
In Giras shop, Bane
rgetta Bangalore they have made a photocopy of LG notification, they showed me when I told them there is huge difference in thier pricing and online.

I think for the end customer, in the warranty card, there should ideally be a SEAL, DATE, Signature of the authorized selller. Now flipkart, infibeam, ebay etc dont provide this. Will this result in getting the warranty when required ? This is very true because, online dealers is known to have provided refurbished / demo/ used pieces to many people which are posted i n this forum . Even now, I see that infibeam has now a deal for panasonic 42 ET5D for 60,000 Rs with a panasonic printer. This offer from panasonic ended in LAST year. But these guys are having some peices from a vendor, which they are not revealing !!

Has one one who purchased online (TV) in this forum experienced any issue in terms of getting warranty coverage ?

As far as I know, all the products sold directly by reputed vendors like Flipkart are covered under warranty. Reasons being:
>When you get the product, it has a VAT paid bill with it - so even in case warranty card is not filled, you have the right to warranty.

> You clearly see they mention 'manufacturer warranty' on the products. If it wasn't the companies would have forced them to remove it by now.

There would be no warranty in case you get it from ebay dealers who tell 'seller's warranty'.Obviously it is as good as buying in black market.

I don't see an issue here

For any items purchased online or otherwise, you have a right to ask for a refund if you have a genuine complaint. It's possible to pursue this claim in a court along with a penalty for hassle.

Manufacturers and dealers typically want to limit their liabilities. They put conditions such as warranty for a limited period only, warranty for a limited period and manufacturing defects only, warranty claims valid only when customer takes the item to service center etc. In absence of clear written terms (typically there is a booklet called warranty terms and conditions), you should ask for a full refund.

I am now 100% sure that Girias fella has a bogus notice. I have bought many products online. The only thing the service centre asks for is the original Invoice with VAT/ TIN etc and of course with the product serial no etc clearly mentioned along with the product detail. Many a times nowadays they have done away with the warranty card. Even if it's there it is not essential to get it stamped. It is only served as an additional paper to justify your claims.

This info seals the bogus letter of Girias. Just tell them, to give you a copy, so that you can verify with the LG office, and don't forget to tell him that someone known to you works for LG who will take up the matter. I am 100% sure, he will back off.

If an online dealer is properly registered and obtains products from authorized sources, warranty should not be a problem.

Flipkart indicates manufacturer warranty on nearly all electronic products. If the ebay dealer you buy from is an authorized reseller, there should be no problem on getting warranty. You only need to talk to dealer on how they will handle transit damage.

Warranty problem arises if the online dealer is selling a grey market product.

I have not needed warranty support on a Toshiba TV purchased online, but was able to get Toshiba Customer Support to do the install, wall mount etc. without a problem. Toshiba Customer Support did not indicate any problem with the online purchase. They did take a copy of the invoice along with the product serial number for entry into their system.

I purchased an Panasonic online. I am located in Hyderabad , the Online dealer was from Chennai and he arranged with Panasonic HYD to come and install the TV.

Online purchases ( Indian ) are covered under warranty and the manufacturers do provide service. Of course this excludes the imported sets sold online which are not covered in India
