OK I don't really bother whether it can passthrough HD audio or not, atleast for now.
But come on, this is my primary source for music- the dreaded clipping issue seems to be back after some recent firmware upgrade (must be wdtvlive_1.06.15_V).

I have read that there is an unwanted audio gain added at the output (SPDIF). Some say it is fixed, some say it still exists. May be it was fixed but I am very sure it came back after some recent firmware update. I play FLAC and it clips. I play MP3 it clips: No matter what volume I keep in my receiver, it clips (surprisingly, it does not clip while playing 5.1 audio)

I have some plans to expand my stereo setup (adding a DAC) only on the hopes that this tiny player would do justice being a good source. But it is terrifying to know that (i) the clipping issue still exists and (ii) the player down-samples the digital audio to 44khz or less.

Who shares my worries?

Have you tried reducing the volume for music tracks from "WDTV" Remote? The volume on player only works for PCM tracks.

Yes, they dont have a dedicated volume button on the remote. but they do added a plugin later. Plugin: VolumeControl

With that plugin, you can use up/down button to change the volume. By default, the WDTV volume level is max (100)

Thanks. You mean to say I must flash the player with custom firmware? I have no idea how to do it, will have to learn the steps through. I wonder if we put in a custom firmware, do we lose the recent upgrades/fixes done by the official release?

And anyone else has this clipping issue?
